The New York Yankees are arguably the most storied sports franchise in the world. The 27 World Series championships under their belt are proof that their bold moves have often paid big dividends.

From surprising trades to strategic free agent acquisitions, the Yankees have consistently demonstrated over the decades that they are not afraid to defy the conventional wisdom of the day.

Additionally, the ongoing business savvy of the Yankees brass has been a huge reason why the team can continually put forth championship-caliber teams. Perhaps the best-known team owner in sports history was George Steinbrenner, who became the club’s Principal Owner in 1973. He was the consummate visionary who redefined the existing MLB business model, overseeing the creation of the YES Network and pushing forth the vision of the current Yankee Stadium, which opened in 2009.

Yankees General Manger, Brian Cashman recognizes the importance of continuing the team’s legacy of achievement on the field, and he also sees how important it is to maintain consistent fan engagement.

“SAP HANA is providing experiences that our fans have never had before. We can maintain, report on and track real-time information on all types of fans throughout every engagement channel.”

Cashman believes that running a live business provides insight into greater opportunities, the right promotional campaigns, and the specific demographics needed to maximize ticket sales.

“Given the analytics and information we get in real-time, we can adjust on the fly. The benefit we receive from implementing these systems allows me to have the maximum budget to spend on players and develop the team.

“I am radically different with how I go about my business today than 20 years ago. Gravitating to new technology has allows me to take this franchise to higher levels of efficiency. SAP HANA is going to allow us to exponentially grow our business.”

It might be interesting to ponder how much more dominant the Yankees teams of the last century would have been had they had access to technology like this. However, what is certain today is that Cashman intends on leveraging it to help secure even more pennants for Yankees fans.

By combining technology with their signature commitment to winning, the New York Yankees believe that when you have access to live information in the moment, you can make the type of immediate decisions that will invariably keep knocking the ball out of the park for many years to come.
