Introduction

To fulfill the specific needs of the media and entertainment industry, specific features are required in the product master. Firstly, most of the products in the media and entertainment industry are hierarchical in nature. An often-used example is a TV series with seasons, each of these seasons consisting of several episodes. But there are a lot of other examples of media product hierarchies, some of them requiring more than 3 hierarchy levels.

In addition, there is the need to store media and custom-specific information in additional attributes that are not available in the standard product master. The set of required attributes varies by the type of media product. A TV series requires different attributes compared to a movie, and a music song or an issue of a book series requires completely different attributes. Therefore, it is important that a customer can easily define the set of required attributes according to the respective business scenario.

An important use case, where the media product hierarchy and the media specific attributes need to be supported, is By Title Financial Accounting and Reporting. In this use case, each financial transaction is assigned to a media product master via account assignment, and in analytics the financial figures are reported by Media Product Master.
