The SAP CAL solution “SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS05 for Content Activation Evaluation of a Customer’s Own Documentation, including SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA” is now available!
Hello, this is Evan Stoddard, one of the product managers for SAP Solution Manager.
SAP Solution Manager Product Management is pleased to announce that the solution “SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS05 for Content Activation Evaluation of a Customer’s Own Documentation, including SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANAntent Activation of Customer’s Own Documentation” is now available to SAP customers and partners via the Cloud Appliance Library (CAL) at http://cal.sap.com.
This education-focused appliance includes both SAP Solution Manager 7.2 ABAP and JAVA systems as well as a MS Windows desktop to allow easy system access via a standard SAP frontend. This appliance runs on Linux/SAP HANA, with AWS and Azure as infrastructure providers.
The purpose of this appliance is to allow SAP’s customers and partners to test and evaluate the content activation process that moves SAP Solution Manager 7.1 solution documentation into the new 7.2 solution documentation UI after an upgrade. As described in the presentation and training simulation in the link below, you can save 7.1 solution documentation and landscape information to transport files, and then add them to the 7.2 system in SAP CAL via the WinSCP tool. You can then proceed with the one-time content activation procedure to evaluate how your documentation will appear in the new 7.2 system. Best of all, through the cloud infrastructure you can restore the system to a previous state easily and repeat the activation process as many times as you wish.
In addition, if your company policies prevent the transfer of confidential, productive solution documentation to a cloud environment, you can create a test project based on SAP Solution Manager 7.1 standard content provided by the Business Process Repository or Rapid Deployment Solution, and use this project to experience the activation process.
On this appliance, some basic settings and setup of Process Management has been performed to allow the quickest path for evaluation of the content activation process. As part of this configuration, a sample ‘solman’ user has been created with the necessary authorizations.
No other configuration has been performed, but you are free to use and configure this system for evaluation of other capabilities, install SAP Notes, and make other changes as you would in any other SAP CAL system.
This solution also contains Best Practice content already imported into the new solution documentation user interface, accessible via the Solution Manager Launchpad in the user menu or via tcode SM_WORKCENTER.
A sample project plan has also been uploaded to the Project Management area, also available as a tile in the Launchpad.
Note that a dummy SAP S/4HANA system has been defined in the Landscape Management Database. If you plan to connect a real SAP S/4HANA system, you can remove this dummy system and replace it with the real one.
Support for this 30-day free trial system will take place via the SAP CAL SCN community in the same manner as other free trials: http://scn.sap.com/community/cloud-appliance-library .
The process to move existing solution documentation (processes, landscape information) from an on premise SAP Solution Manager 7.1 to the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 in the SAP Cloud Appliance Library is described in the Content Activation section of the SAP Solution Manager Media Center, accessed from the SAP Solution Manager Homepage: http://support.sap.com/solution-manager.
The direct link to the Media Center is here: SAP Solution Manager Media Center
Within the Media Center, navigate to the following path: Functional Areas -> Cross Topics -> Content Activation -> Cloud Appliance Library (CAL) – SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS04 for Content Activation Evaluation of a Customer’s Own Documentation.
Thank you!
Hello Evan,
Thanks for sharing this information. I had gone through your other helpful blogs as well.
Solution manager 7.2 is promising and had good features. Though I am searching about and wondering when this is expected to be supported on HANA 2.0
Looks like we can move our entire suit to HANA 2.0 but Solution manager as of now. Any link for roadmap or insight is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Amit
There is a lot of great information in this blog, however I have not found a way or documentation to access the Linux server at the OS level to copy a transport from our Solution Manager 7.1. I can copy it to the RDP server but I need to access the Linux server in the /usr/sap/trans directory.
Has anyone found documentation and or a way to SSH to the Linux servers in the Azure Cloud.
I was already in the process of creating an instance for this through CAL. But it seems that this solution is only available for AWS in region us-east-1 at the moment, any idea of when it will be available in eu-central-1?
