Structured Articles in S/4HANA Product Master
Introduction
Article comprises several components structured as a bill of material, for example:
-
Sales Sets: A set is a combination of several articles which are bought individually and sold together, for example a bottle of wine together with two wineglasses. The components of a set can belong to different merchandise categories and can also have different tax rates. However, the set itself must always have a single tax rate. It is normally assembled at the retailer’s.
The stock is managed at component level if the components can also be sold individually, but it can also be managed at set level.
-
Displays : A Display is a collection of articles which are, similar to the prepack, bought together and sold individually, including special packaging. An example would be at Christmas time the paper figure of Santa Claus, holding different types of chocolate: the manufacturer delivers the whole figure; the store sells the individual chocolates. Again, this is technically a BOM. As components, you can use either single articles or variants of generic articles.
In the wholesale trade, displays are purchased and sold, whereas in the retail trade, only the components are sold. For this reason, stock is managed at display level at the distribution center, and at component level at the store.
-
Prepacks: A lot is a collection of different articles that are bought together and sold individually, thus more or less the opposite of a set. Shoes would be a good example: They are bought as a collection of shoes with different sizes (for example one of size 39 three of size 40 … two of size 45 etc.).
Unlike a display, the components must belong to the same merchandise category as the prepack itself. They can be grouped together by the retailer as well as by the manufacturer or vendor.
In the wholesale trade, prepacks are purchased and sold, whereas in the retail trade, only the components are sold. For this reason, stock is managed at prepack level at the distribution center, and at component level at the store.
Structured Article in the Product Master Fiori Application
As of SAP S/4HANA 1709, in the Product Master Application, you can create/delete components of the Bill of Materials (BOM). Unlike in the classical transactions, the user is allowed to delete all the components and add the components again in the same draft.
Note that only BOM with BOM category “M”(Material BOM) and Item category ‘L’ is supported.
Creation of a Sales Set/Display/Prepacks is similar in process. Follow the below steps to create a structured article using Product Master App:
- Create a Sales Set/Display/Sales Set in Product Master Application and fill all the basic fields in the pop-up.
- Go to Components and click on plus button to add components. An empty row will be created.
- Now attach the articles you want and enter the quantity associated with it.
- Click on save after adding the relevant articles as components.
