SAP HANA in San Ramon

“Since my current job at SAP is my first full-time job, it means a lot to me personally. Anything that you end up doing for the first-time results in strong memories that will be cherished for a long time. I would like to thank SAP for believing in my skills.”

As part of our #SAPHANACareers series we asked some of our San Ramon based developers about their journey with SAP and what advice they had to give other developers starting out in their careers.

Meet Chirag who was born in Indonesia and Prateek who is from India. After graduating they both joined SAP as developers where they continue to grow their knowledge and skillset.

What do you think are the key skills people need to do your job?

Chirag: “I would say being humble and without fear. No one knows the ins and outs of the company or a whole module of code when they are new so don’t be afraid to ask questions.”

Prateek: “An understanding of database internals; the ability to get into the zone where it is just you and code. The ability to communicate complex technical issues at the right level of granularity is also really important.”

What does your career at SAP mean to you?

Chirag: “To me it means that my hard work has paid off. This is a cut-throat field and for me to be selected amongst tons of experienced candidates is just an honour.”

Prateek: “Since my current job at SAP is my first full-time job, it means a lot to me personally. Anything that you end up doing for the first-time results in strong memories that will be cherished for a long time. I would like to thank SAP for believing in my skills.”

What does success look like to you?

Prateek: “Building software that has an impact and makes people’s lives better. Whenever I hear a customer success story from the product that I work on, I feel elated. The feeling that you get when you know that every day, the lines of code that you wrote are run many times all over the world is exciting. I think software development is a unique profession in terms of the magnitude of impact.”

Chirag: “Waking up every day and knowing that you love what you’re doing and you will continue to do so with unbelievable amount of passion and grit.”
