I remember the not so good old days of sitting in a drab, boring, cramped cubicle for eight or more hours a day, counting the hours until I was able to clock out and get some much needed fresh air. We would decorate our corporate cells with photos of loved ones, nick knacks, painted coffee cups, and paste-it notes hanging everywhere. Yet, nothing changed the depression such a space caused.

All that is changing as the needs of a technology managed workforce begins to take shape and find new spaces, on and off the Cloud. Powerful and versatile technologies are allowing corporate employees to become more mobile and less tied to their desks than ever before in the history of employment in such environments. This is causing the whole idea of a permanent office to become increasingly outdated and unnecessary.

This is the beginning of an era where mobile office professionals are finding new ways to conduct business.

More organizational meetings and gatherings in non-office spaces, making these events more attractive and fun to attend. Along with the right space, people need the right tools to easily book meeting rooms and other shared resources. Today, corporate event planning involves taking things to different, more creative levels.

Ways Businesses Livening Things Up

Back in the good old days, it was pretty much a must to have an office – mostly full of cubicles. Meetings were conducted there, co-workers met each other, work got done, and lots of coffee was drunk.

People are beginning to look at what their jobs entail and are asking themselves, “Do I really need to be doing this work here in this office?” For a lot of office workers, they actually could do most, if not all, of their tasks from about anywhere with an internet connection.

This fact has been backed up by data as far back as 2013 when Regus Global Economic Indicator questioned 26,000 business managers from 90 different countries about this issue. The study revealed that 48 percent of those questioned work remotely for at least half of the work-week. So, if the number of remote workers is so high, where lies the future of the office? On a downward spiral, that’s where.

Who Needs an Office Anyway

Amazingly enough, 90 percent of workers said that a company is more attractive if they offer flexibility in the types of work environments they are allowed to work in. This means those organizations that wish to lure in the top talent and keep them there would allow those employees to work whenever possible away from the office. You already see this in sectors such as IT, writing, clerical, and other positions that use some sort of SAP related technologies.

HanaHaus is one of the top co-working spaces out there at the moment, speaking of SAP. SAP’s HanaHaus has been around since 2015, only open for SAP employee in the beginning to see how things went. So far, things have been going really well and it has since opened up to the public.

Coworking trends are also evolving past the ping pong table, dart boards and video game areas that they are known for. There is an increase of niche based coworking spaces, such as woman-only coworking spaces. “Members say they’re so much more productive, and they feel like there’s less pressure in an environment without men,” says Audrey Gelman, cofounder of The Wing. First opening up in New York, they have had members ranging from fashion designer Jenna Lyons to actress and model Hari Nef.
