On the last night of SAPPHIRE (SAP’s annual user conference) this year, a few colleagues and I were celebrating over dinner discussing the months of intense work leading up to the success of the event. The conversation quickly turned to identifying ways to become more productive without killing ourselves. What can we do to become more productive given we have an endless stream of emails around the clock, 50%+ of the day spent in meetings (some productive, some not, because a few of us tend to enjoy hearing ourselves talk), managing through the already 150% overcommitted activities? What if we had an extra 5 minutes, here and there? How could we use that time? How would most people use that time? With that question in mind, I turned to Google for fun just to see what turns up. Here are some suggestions I found to help one become more productive at work:
- Respond to an email (or 5)
- Get a cup of coffee
- Go for a quick walk
- Chat/txt with your colleagues (because no one talks anymore unless it’s a conference call)
- Clean your workspace
- Read a page or two (depending on your speed reading skills) of a book (or white paper)
Personally, I’m challenged with finding ways to stay on top of what’s happening with our competition, the latest trends and uses cases for cloud platform and emerging technologies while keeping up with all the emails, calls, activities, etc. I would use
my 5 minutes to catch up on any content related to these topic areas and prefer that it’s easily consumable, in less than 5 minutes. Ideally, it’s in the form of a concise and educational video to keep me engaged, thinking about the relevance for my job and potentially being an inspirational source for new ideas.
With that in mind, a few colleagues and I set off to create some videos with the goal of providing quick learnings on trends, benefits and use cases for my platform-as-a-service product
SAP Cloud Platform. The videos feature thought leaders’ viewpoints on news in the industry, different technologies that address challenges such as managing an ever-growing complex IT landscape, using open source, leveraging big data, understanding IoT benefits, delivering better customer experiences, and many more.
