I’d like to introduce you to my team - the ISV & Platform Partnerships Group (fka OEM)! Together, we help companies innovate by adopting SAP technologies in their product portfolios. Our team consists of: Account Executives, Solution Advisors, Partner Success Managers, Business Development, Marketing, and other Supporting staff. To say we love a healthy competition might just be a tad of an understatement!

We’ve run a series of step challenges over the years to push each other and have fun, with healthy benefits as an outcome. This started with basic competitions at SAP events, where participants took screen captures of their step counts via the Fitbit app or mobile device. As you can imagine, this involved plenty of manual work to maintain – and could yield inaccurate results. We are SAP and there had to be a better way to do this! Our Head of NA, Camilla Dahlen, challenged the Solution Advisors to come up with a fun, automated way for our team to compete.

An SAP internal team created an application on the SAP Cloud Platform as an incubation project to connect personal devices, such as Apple Watches or Fitbit wearables, and track steps. Along with a colleague, Neeraj Upreti, we were able to work with this team to create a competition specific to our team! As this team notes quite well “we are drinking our own champagne” using SAP technologies. We created both personal and team dashboards to track our progress.

We focused our Q2 2017 competition on teams, and decided to use one of our other great technologies, Lumira, to report weekly to our seven teams. While this is a rudimentary dashboard, breaking every known best design principle, it met our needs and we had a lot of fun with it, sparking mini-competitions throughout the quarter, such as team names, mascots, etc. This dashboard was easy to maintain and took literally less than an hour to create.

What’s next?

I had the opportunity to chat with Anik Roy, Director of Marketing and Communications, from Global Health Management at SAP. She explained in more details the recently-launched Run Your Way program and the SAP global activity challenge also run on SAP Cloud Platform! She gave me a quick tour of some of the functionality this challenge has, and having devoted a good part of my career to analytics, I was quite impressed! SAP has taken lessons learned, and best practices from our colleagues in APJ, as well as conducted Design Thinking sessions, to come up with an Enterprise Grade Platform fit for all SAP employees to use Worldwide!

I registered on the Fit@SAP platform, and literally took less than 10 minutes to register. Here’s my initial dashboard after registration, and ready for our first challenge- Run Your Way around the world.

These are just a few examples of how we are using our technologies to help our employees Run Simple. How can you help your customers use these technologies in innovative ways?
