An SAP customer early on, in-memory capabilities are the centrepiece of KATERRA's technology platform, allowing the vertically integrated company to design, supply and assemble construction projects at scale, with utmost efficiency. Seeking a solution to integrate all of their complex business processes, the startup chose to implement SAP BW/4HANA for their data warehousing needs, while running the core of their business on SAP S/4HANA.
A data-driven technology company, KATERRA needed a strong data management solution early on to support the startup's fast growth. When evaluating data warehouse offerings, KATERRA’s IT team searched for a solution that could easily integrate with a variety of data sources from both SAP and other applications. SAP BW/4HANA was a natural fit, extending their existing SAP S/4HANA business suite and connecting to non-SAP sources such as Open DSL. The team also looked for low-latency reporting capabilities, which would allow them to deliver certain reports and analytics to business users in real time.
“The business has immediately seen the value [of BW/4HANA],” remarks Paladugu, noting the positive response within the organization. After a reportedly seamless implementation, KATERRA’s business users now benefit from streamlined processes and improved day-to-day operational and executive decision making, based on fresh data. These new capabilities have improved reporting accuracy, allowing employees to uncover new opportunities to grow the business and take it to the next level.
“Now [business users] are coming to us with new reporting requirements and enhancements to existing models,” says Paladugu, pleased about the closer collaboration between IT and the business.
