Student Activity Hub predominantly offers a cloud based analytical platform for higher education domain which has an industry specific – analytic data model with a lot of flexibility , calculation views , a light weight analytical tool with inbuilt ‘Group builder’ and “Group manager’ apps , connectivity with external BI tools , messaging and scheduling capabilities.
University of San Diego is one of the leading universities in the state of California , United states which was founded in 1949. It has a total enrollment of 36K per year .
Our Product owner Craig Kennedy got an opportunity to meet the CIO of the university ,Vince Kellen and discussed about Student Activity Hub . The CEO got really impressed with the data model of student activity hub and offered to share their industry knowledge and experiences with us . Also they agreed to pilot the BETA version of Student Activity Hub.
As the first step , a team from SAP – product owner Craig Kennedy, Development product Owner Arun Mathew and the Scrum Architect Arun Achanta visited the university and conducted one day workshop where the team has explained the features of Student Activity Hub and collected all their requirements . Also some of the commonly using industry specific analytic use cases like term retention , class enrollments etc were discussed and SAP agreed to include these use cases as part of the product. The same got validated with an another customer, University of Kentucky later.
As the next step , the scrum architect -Vishnu Kare and the lead architect – Bipin M were in the University last month to build industry specific analytic views together with them . It was a 3 weeks assignment and was a great learning experience for all of us. We also formed a small offshore team in Bangalore to support this assignment. It was a great success – the team could develop 6 such views with the help of the customer , could show the end to end flow and finally got it validated from the customer. We had a very good collaboration with the customer’s IT team and the business users during the assignment . We are still continuing this collaboration by having bi weekly calls , discussing the future requirements , testing and demonstrating student activity hub applications with customer data .
The customer successfully tested the beta version of Student Activity Hub in a real Cloud environment in May.
