In this blog, let’s take a look at analytics aspects in a 2-tier deployment model

Build a consistent user experience for 2 Tier Analytics providing visibility at Headquarters (HQ) Systems running with on Premise SAP systems(ERP/EDW) with integration to SAP S4HANA Cloud (ERP on Cloud) data running at subsidiary.

2 Tier Scenario’s Analytics covers various line of business (Sales, Procurement, Finance, manufacturing etc.) to provide highly integrated solution with specific connectors establishing more refined Best Practices to an enterprise-wide solution, SAP S/4HANA Cloud provides an immersive experience by creating variety of options to innovate with digital core in subsidiaries while simplifying the relationship between headquarter and subsidiary and balancing cost, efficiency, and innovation.

2 Tier scenarios for Analytics covers the Operational analytics with Embedded Analytics (Prebuilt content is delivered such as SAP Smart Business cockpits, Fiori Overview Pages (OVP) and Fiori Analytical List Pages (ALP), Analysis Path Framework (APF) and Multi-dimensional reports) and real-time insight to action with SAP S/4HANA (OP) and S/4HANA Cloud ERP running at subsidiaries providing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), so every few months latest version with new innovations is available, without hassle and any extra effort

2 Tier scenarios for Analytics also covers Strategic Analytics by providing Executive Boardroom Agenda with SAP Digital Boardroom /SAP analytics for cloud and broad set of SAP analytical content sourcing data from SAP S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA Cloud and non-SAP source systems

Integration of 2 Tier scenarios for Analytics broadly cover the below use case scenarios’ which are planned to be implemented in future phased releases

Use case #1:   Headquarter (HQ) running on SAP ERP/S4HANA On Premise along with SAP BW & BPC as their Centralized Reporting Enterprise Data warehouse tool whereas Subsidiaries will be on SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC) with integration to SAP Analytics for Cloud providing various analytics with executive boardroom agenda (SAP Digital Boardroom) and Planning solution for subsidiaries with SAP Planning for cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud for Planning).

Leverage this use case when Headquarter (HQ) ERP is integrated with BW as single source of truth for consolidated reporting across all subsidiaries in the landscape and leverage already made investments into BWat HQ. Solution provide visibility of each of the Subsidiaries at HQ in a Consolidated way as well as Subsidiary by subsidiary reporting.

Data replication from SAP S/4 HANA Cloud to BW via whitelisted data sources on SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC) with supported change pointer, delta, and full load extraction mechanism.

Source system in BW is using the ODP framework to transfer data via Web Service (SOAP via HTTPS) from S/4HANA Cloud. BW to S/4HANA Cloud, connection can be established using Operational Data Processing (ODP) via the Web Service communication channel (SOAP via HTTPS). To establish a connection from the respective SAP Business Warehouse system. Whitelisted Data sources on S4HC will be used to extract data out of S4HC required for reporting with SAP Business Warehouse at Headquarters (HQ).

SAP BW Activation for SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation (Scope Item: 1VG) covers the details for integration of SAP S/4 HANA Cloud to BW via whitelisted data sources

Pre-requisites for user to have administrator privileges for the SAP S/4HANA Cloud system SAP_CORE_BC_COM (Communication Management) are required in order to access the SAP Fiori applications for managing the communication arrangement

 

  1. Pre-requisites for user to have administrator privileges for the SAP S/4HANA Cloud system SAP_CORE_BC_COM (Communication Management) are required in order to access the SAP Fiori applications for managing the communication arrangement.
  2. Communication Arrangement set-up needs to be performed and activated in SAP S/4HANA Cloud for communication with web services for BW integration SAP_COM_0042: SAP Business Warehouse Integration (including SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation)
  3. Create Communication System in SAP S/4HANA Cloud
  4. Create Communication Arrangement
  5. Interaction with Cloud Service Center SAP activates the Data Sources that have been released for the integration of SAP Business Warehouse / SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation
  6. Establish the Connection from BW to SAP S/4HANA Cloud connection using Operational Data Processing (ODP) via the Web Service communication channel (SOAP via HTTPS).

Use case #2  :Headquarter (HQ) running on SAP ERP/S4HANA On Premise can also operate with SAP BW/4HANA & BPC as their Centralized Reporting Enterprise Data warehouse tool whereas Subsidiaries will be on SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC) with integration to SAP Analytics for Cloud providing various analytics with executive boardroom agenda (SAP Digital Boardroom) and BW/4HANA provide advanced analytical capabilities with integration from multiple source system without persistence of data and modern analytics features.

 

Leverage this use case when Headquarter (HQ) ERP is integrated with BW/4HANA as single source of truth and Data replication from SAP S/4 HANA Cloud to BW/4HANA via ODP (Operational Data Provisioning) based CDS View with delta enabled data sources on SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC) with supported change pointer, delta, and full load extraction mechanism. Operational data provisioning (ODP) based on CDS view where CDS view requires according annotations.

Supported communication protocols are RFC & ODATA so that SAP BW/4HANA systems could be integrated with SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC)

      • Extract application data from S/4HANA e.g. for cross-system analytics or master data distribution
      • Extracted data is based on the semantic layer and provides high quality e.g. global fieldnames
      • Low TCD due to reuse of CDS views

Use case #3 : Integrate existing SAP Business Objects On- Premise installation via BICS approach to connect to Queries/Info providers build on SAP Business Warehouse at Headquarters with integration to SAP S/4HANA Cloud running at Subsidiaries with Whitelisted data sources.

 

Headquarters runs SAP ERP/S4HANA OP / any ERP along with SAP Business Objects BI Platform and subsidiary runs S4HC. Leverage this specific use-case to integrate existing SAP Business Objects BI Platform installation at Headquarters (HQ) with subsidiaries via BW using Operational Data Processing (ODP) via the Web Service communication channel (SOAP via HTTPS) as integration to subsidiaries SAP S/4HANA Cloud system and extract and transform data with data wrangling and modeling features and then leverage already defined Business Objects BI Platform Universe

Use Case#4 : Headquarters(HQ) runs SAP ERP/S4HANA OP or any ERP and subsidiary runs on SAP S/4HANA Cloud using SAP Cloud Platform Central reporting with data integration from multiple source systems.

 

 

  • Custom development on SAP Cloud Platform required to develop analytics.
  • Whitelisted APIs and CDS views/OData Services on SAP S/4HANA Cloud running at Subsidiaries and Whitelisted APIs and CDS views/OData Services from SAP S/4HANA On-Premise /or any ERP running at Headquarters can be used to read required data and integrate with SAP Cloud Platform
  • Headquarters(HQ) SAP S/4HANA On premise Data replication using cloud based replication solution or use Data Replication Solution to push on premise Data to a Database in the Cloud
  • Custom development required on Headquarters(HQ) side along with Cloud Connector to read required data from HQ

Point to Point Connectivity with SAP Cloud Platform without data persistence from On-Premise systems

  • SAP Backend is enabled with SAP Gateway to provide OData API via HTTPS or RFC API
  • SAP HANA Cloud Connector enables access to whitelisted SAP Backend with HTTPS or RFC
  • Apps on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform can connect to SAP Backend with HTTPS or with RFC

Point to Point Connectivity with SAP Cloud Platform

 

Cloud Based Replication solution with SAP Cloud Platform.

Replicate the required-on premise Backend Data to the SAP Cloud Platform, Use an on premise or cloud-based Replication Solution. The Cloud App operates on this Data in the Cloud. Cloud based Replication Agent reads Data from On-Premise Backend and Cloud Services writes Data to Database in SAP Cloud Platform

Use Case #5 Headquarter (HQ) running on SAP ERP/S4HANA On Premise and Subsidiaries on SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC) can operate with SAP Analytics for Cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud) as their Centralized Reporting tool for strategic analytics and use Embedded analytics for the Operational reporting.

Leverage this setup for handling central reporting & analytics using SAP Business Objects Cloud and custom development can be achieved on SAP Business Objects Cloud required to develop analytics. Central reporting with SAP Analytics for cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud) offers advanced calculation options and variance charts for Analytics. Planning & Analytics with SAP BusinessObjects Cloud can be achieved by blending real-time analysis into the user story for Planning & Analytics – merging replicated models into the same front-end story/dashboard as real-time stories.

Whitelisted CDS views analytical queries from SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud can be used to read required data.

Below are the recommended analytics integration approaches with SAP Analytics for cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud)

  • S4/HANA online connector to SAP Analytics for cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud) can be used to connect SAP S4/HANA Cloud Edition at subsidiaries and SAP S4/HANA On-premise Edition for Headquarters(HQ) System for analytics capabilities and achieve executive dashboards with SAP Digital Boardroom use cases with the online connector to ABAP-based CDS views and analytical queries

 

Technical version prerequisites

  • SAP S4/HANA, Cloud Edition => S/4 HANA 1611 with NW release 7.66 (RTC 11/16)
  • SAP S4/HANA, On-premise Edition => S/4 HANA 1610 with NW release 7.51 SP2
  • Supported deployments: SAP S4/HANA, Cloud Edition and SAP S4/HANA (OP)

 

  • Data Replication scenario from SAP S4/HANA On-premise Edition for Headquarters(HQ) can be achieved by integration with SAP Analytics for cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud) using BW Data Acquisition connector to acquire data into from SAP S4/HANA On-premise Edition for Headquarters(HQ) to address hybrid use case scenario’s for Headquarter reporting. Custom development required on HQ side to read required data from HQ into SAP Business Objects Cloud

 

  • Data Replication scenario from subsidiary system SAP S/4HANA Cloud  Refer to Blog How To Integrate SAP BusinessObjects Cloud for Planning with SAP S/4HANA Cloud for more details is recommended for planning specific scenario’s by integrating SAP BusinessObjects Cloud (BOC) for Planning. Master data and Transaction actuals data in S/4HANA Cloud are replicated via OData Services into a SAP Analytics for cloud (Formerly SAP BusinessObjects Cloud) Analytics Model enabled for planning . After finishing the planning round, plan data can be loaded back via flat file based Fiori Interface for retraction into the financial planning table in S/4HANA Cloud

Use Case#6 : Reporting on Headquarters on SAP ERP/S/4HANA or any ERP : Headquarter (HQ) running on SAP ERP/S4HANA On Premise and Subsidiaries on SAP S/4HANA Cloud (EMC) can operate Analytics using Embedded analytics for the analytical reporting.

SAP -SAP integration can leverage SAP Cloud Connector and SAP Cloud to SAP Cloud products can leverage pre-packaged SAP delivered integration.

Leverage above use case setup for handling central reporting & analytics on SAP S/4HANA or any ERP with custom development on ERP required to develop analytics. Whitelisted APIs and CDS views based OData services on S4HC and SAP S/4HANA (OP) can be used to read required data.

By 1705, RFC (Both ways) and HTTPS (From op to cloud) are supported for S4HANA op and S4HANA cloud integration. Leverage this use case when custom EDW needs to be single source of truth for Consolidated Reporting across all subsidiaries in the landscape and leverage already made investments into EDW at HQ. The data replication from SAP S4/HANA, Cloud to EDW requires whitelisting of API on SAP S4/HANA, Cloud and SAP S/4HANA (OP). Staging and transformation needs to be handled as custom development on EDW side (HQ).
