IoT Strategy and Product Portfolio – SAP TechEd Lecture of the Week
At half way between SAP TechEd 2016 and 2017, let me provide you with an update of the SAP IoT strategy and portfolio overview from last year (see below for the session replay). First of all, we have introduced the SAP Leonardo brand for our IoT solutions (see this announcement blog from Hans Thalbauer) and structured our portfolio around major uses cases based on customer adoption:
- Connected products for manufacturer of industrial equipment, commercial or consumer appliances: Use IoT to improve field service management and service technician experience; deliver new data-driven services based on information gathered in real-time from your products; gain and share live insights on product usage for product design and quality
- Connected assets for operators in asset-intensive industries: Use the digital twin to manage asset performance and risk; use statistical, machine-learning, and physics-based models for operations and predictive maintenance and services; collaborate with suppliers and third party to operate your assets more efficiently based on live IoT data
- Connected assets in manufacturing (Industry 4.0): Increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by vertical and horizontal integration of connected machines, robots, and in-plant logistics; reduce energy consumption; manage and predict quality
- Connected fleet for all moving assets: Track and manage cars, vans, buses, trucks, forklifts, cranes, containers, land machines, and many more (things which are supposed to move – or not); deliver geo-based services and augment with live condition (e.g. for usage-based insurance)
- Connected everything: Connected infrastructure, markets, and people – adding industry flavors for agriculture, smart cities, retail, health, and many other scenarios
- Foundation and Edge: SAP’s comprehensive IoT platform built on SAP Cloud Platform as the basis for SAP’s IoT solutions and for customers and partners to build your own IoT applications; this includes also a secure edge component with data processing capabilities (stay tuned for more at SAPPHIRE NOW in May)
If you cannot wait until the next TechEd to see and experience all of the above in action – we plan to have more than 20 unique session hours on IoT – you have an earlier opportunity to get to know SAP’s IoT solutions:
- SAP SAPPHIRE NOW and ASUG Annual Conference, Orlando, May 16-18, 2017 (plus a full pre-conference day on IoT, link to Leonardo agenda)
- SAP Leonardo Live, Frankfurt, July 11-12, 2017 (plus a pre-conference partner day, link to event website)
