As the first quarter of the year 2017 ends, I am listing down the latest capabilities that made into API Management

Policy Templates

Apart from the capabilities to create and apply Policy templates (a fantastic blogpost can be found here) we introduced the options to Export and Import template entities enabling users to reuse the Policies across multiple application instances. You also see that you can now update an existing template and go about deleting one too, in case you need to discard it.

Support for new Policies

Protecting your backend services against attacks is one of the primary reasons to use an API management solution. We strengthen you in this endeavor by introducing 2 additional Policies –

  1. XML Threat Protection Policy which detects XML based attacks

  2. Regular Expression Protection Policy which detects threats based on predefined regular expressions

Layout changes in Policy Editor

We bring in a couple of cosmetic changes in the Policy Editor to enhance usability

Support for Hybrid Deployment Model

It is now possible for SAP Cloud Platform, API management to connect to your SAP API Management, on-premise and help you manage your APIs from one place. More about how you could go about the set up can be found here.

Metering & Monetization

Seeing traction on your published APIs is good, but what’s great would be to generate revenue based on the consumption of these APIs. We are in the process of building such a Billing engine and the first drop of the feature is already available to you where you could create Rate Plans, attach them to Products and generate Bills based on the associated Rate Plan.

With this, we move into the next quarter in full steam continuing to build exciting features. Stay tuned to listen to updates !
