SAP WM- Process, Functionality, Scope, Benefits, Advantages, Disadvantage-Complete Reference-Part 6 (Cut over activities Details).

In this blog i have shared the details on cut- over activities followed in my client Project. the requirement is not a general one and it is not applicable to all the projects. As we all know the requirement may vary depends on your client existing process and their current requirement. This blog is more suitable for a person who is interested or likes to know what activity to get followed during SAP WM only Cut-over stage.

I have included SD & MM Related Cut -over activities that i have performed for my client and it is not a general and not applicable to all the clients because the requirement may vary depends on the existing business Process, set-up, Data (In simple we can say “Data” to get easy understanding )and type of project- whether it is a fresh implementation/ Roll-out/ upgrade or support- in simple it depends on the nature/ type of the Project. Please do not get confuse with the steps. Each and every module will have different activities in cut-over phase. Again stressing here it is only for SAP WM and that too specific experience for one of my client.

Below Activities for every warehouse should maintain for every new client copy. Activities performed here are specific to my client Project.

In General we can use Inventory transaction MB1C, Mvmt. Type 561 to upload fresh stock and while posting Inbound delivery is created and upon TO confirmation. stock is placed @ interim storage location- Storage Type  998 and then we need to move the stock to Storage Type 001 (Unrestricted stock). This is a common practice.

Here in this blog- I have discussed on Uploading Opening Balances to Storage Bin where stock is already available in storage location.

SAP WM Configuration/Cut-over Activities:

2) Maintain Number range for Inventory document.

3) Create Interim storage bins.

4) Maintain RF User in RF queue management.

Master Data Activities:

6) Material Master data for WM view 1 and view 2

7) Material Master data extension for Plant/SL/warehouse/Storage type

SD side Check- AS SAP WM is tightly integrated with SAP SD for Outbound Process and SAP MM for Inbound Process. We have worked on cut-over activities on following SD and MM related checks,

12) In SD Generally no number ranges required for most clients.

Uploading Opening Balances to Storage Bin where stock is already available in storage location

Step to follow

  • Do not transfer any WM related Customization to PRD server.

  • Make following temporary Customization to 311 movement type as “QM not active”

Transfer this request to PRD server. By this setting, system will not create any inspection lot for storage location to storage location transfer posting.

  • Make setting to New Batch Creation – Make Manual Batch creation for 311 movement type.

Logistics – General -> Batch Management -> Creation of New Batches -> Define Batch Creation for Goods Movements.

Note : After Transferring the stock from Storage location to DUMM & then DUMM to Storage location reset the setting to

  • Create New Dummy Storage Location “DUMM” in all the required plant.

  • Extend all the required material to DUMM storage location by MMSC tr.code

  • Write BDC to transfer all the material stock from WM activated storage location to DUMM storage location by MB1B tr.code (311 mvt. Type). Example Transfer stock available in RM01 storage location to DUMM storage location.

  • Write BDC to transfer all the quality stock from WM activated storage location to DUMM storage location by QAC2 tr.code . Example Transfer stock available in RM01 storage location to DUMM storage location.

Note: Only Allow those stock in quality which has inspection Lot.

If Inspection lot is not available with the batch, then use MB1B Tr.code with 323 mvt.type to transfer the quality stock from existing storage location to DUMM.

  • Transfer WM related request to PRD server. Do not activate WM activities to DUMM Location.

  • Extend all the required material to respective warehouse & storage type.

  • Now run BDC to transfer back the stock of all the material from DUMM storage location to respective storage location by MB1B tr.code (311 Mvt. Type.). Example Transfer back the stock from DUMM storage location to RM01 storage location. This will create TR in background & create +ve quant in 921 interim storage type.

  • Write BDC to transfer back all quality stock from DUMM storage location to WM activated storage location by QAC2 tr.code . This will create TR in background & create +ve quant in 921 interim storage type.

Note: Only Allow those stock in quality which has inspection Lot.

  • If Inspection lot is not available with the batch, then use MB1B Tr.code with 323 mvt.type to transfer the quality stock from DUMM storage location to existing storage Location.

  • Make temporary setting so that auto confirmation will happen for TO posting.

  • Write BDC to Post Transfer order with reference to TR document & post the stock to respective storage Bin (Tr.code LB12). If auto confirmation is not configured then write BDC to confirm the TO (TR.code : LT12)

  • Reset the above MM 311 movement type setting, Remove tik “QM not active” to 311 mvt. Type.
