System Architecture

Let me start with the Finance part. Here the data is coming from an SAP S/4HANA Retail for merchandise management system and is replicated via the S/4HANA on Premise BOC Connector to the SAP BusinessObjects Cloud application. The pre-built analytics gives an attractive overview about the Retail Finance information with major finance driven KPI’s such as Net Sales, Contribution Margin, Return on Equity, EBIT, operating expenses, working capital, Debt to Equity Ratio, Days Inventory Outstanding etc. It starts with a general assessment of financial performance as information to the management board. Year-to-date information combined with the corresponding last year figures shows the trend on enterprise level.

On the next screens the information is getting more granular and the user is able to access context information and to filter and slice and dice the data according to his needs. It enables also the drill down on financial information by store, channel and segment based on different store locations and region.

The second area covers the sales side of the house. The data here has origin in SAP Customer Activity Repository, the omni-channel retail foundation that consolidates customer sales transactions and inventory. Via SAP HANA Live Connection the data doesn’t need to be replicated and the user can take advantage of the detailed level of data available in SAP Customer Activity Repository.

The story starts with an overview about all channels and also a snapshot of the sales in the last 10 days to set the stage.

The following pages are based mainly on store business figures and allow the user similar to the Finance Story to dive deeper and drill down to regions, countries, stores and categories.

A very nice feature which is used in several stories, is the exploration view. In the exploration view the user see a faceted view of the data. When selecting measures and dimensions in the upper pane, the visualization in the lower pane updates in real time. The user can filter dimensions by selection individual members, and the visualization changes immediately to show the filtered result.
