Today, SAP released a new version of SAP Web IDE: SAP Web IDE, innovation version.

We are making this version available to early adopters who want to experience advanced features that we consider to eventually release as part of a productive version of SAP Web IDE.

At this time, the innovation version is being offered in addition to the regularly released version of SAP Cloud Platform, Web IDE.

SAP Web IDE, innovation version is based on a more capable and scalable open-source server-side foundation.

This version may be updated periodically with additional advanced features that are not yet available in the productive SAP Web IDE version.

Since this is a Beta version, you cannot use it productively. Still, you are welcome to experiment with this version to explore our innovative features before they are released as general availability.

One important new capability of the innovation version is the Grunt Build. It allows you, as part of the build process, to scan your code, optimize it for performance, package it, and much more. We offer it together with a set of best practices that we have found to be most effective for building SAP Fiori applications.

If you’d like to experiment with the innovation version, see our documentation and tutorials on some of the new features.

    Hi,

Great news! I was wondering when Grunt would be supported in the Web IDE.

We do have a productive account with beta features enabled but I can’t find the Innovation version in the list of services. How can I fix this?

EDIT: I just saw in the documentation that the innovation version is only available on the trial landscape.

EDIT 2: I just followed the 2 tutorials on the trial landscape but the build just fails. 🙂 I opened an issue on Github.

    Cheers,

    Pierre

        Hi Elizabeth,

I couldn’t see the Innovation Version in the services for my productive accounts a few days ago but now it’s there so I can activate it.

However I have an error when I start the Web IDE Innovation Version:

Unhandled Error: Could not load configuration.
Reason: Error: Request failed: Unauthorized URI: https://webideinnovation-xxxxxxxxx.dispatcher.hana.ondemand.com/di/client/features

Do we really need to create a sub-account even if the global account already has beta features enabled?

        Cheers,

        Pierre

          Hi Pierre,

Can you please open a ticket with the details of the error?

We will check the error and get back to you.

          Thanks,

          Lisi

    hi Elizabeth,

When will such features make way into the offline version of WebIDE that can be downloaded from ondemand?

    Cheers,

    Dan.

      Hi Dan,

At the moment, the grunt build capabilities are not planned in the next release of SAP Web IDE personal edition.

      Best Regards,

      Lisi

        hi Elizabeth,

I was like, 100% sure it wouldn’t be quick, but I did not ask about the “Personal” edition but rather the offline version (which can be used Productive) – my question is “when” and you can reply “we have absolutely no idea”.. I will just pass the info forward to customers & internal folks.

        Cheers, Dan.
