Chemical companies are facing challenges coming from globalization, major regional shifts of demand and supply base, geopolitical risks, increased competition, and others. One key element to stay ahead of all these challenges is a proper and sound controlling and monitoring of company’s performance. SAP BusinessObjects Cloud including the Digital Boardroom is SAP’s strategic next-generation Cloud solution for Analytics, Planning and Prediction, built on SAP Cloud Platform. Bernd Leukert announced this in his key note at TechEd Barcelona (details here). The chemical industry was selected as a pilot for building industry specific content and the chemical template can be downloaded free of charge via the SCN Community, given an existing SAP BusinessObjects Cloud and SAP Digital Board Room license. The digital boardroom for chemicals provides a 360° business view, based on comprehensive and integrated data models reflecting a “single source of truth”. It consists of a sample board meeting agenda and subject matter topics feeding into it. To support a sound overview of company’s status, agenda topics for finance, portfolio performance, sales, HR, and Health & Safety were included. All data can be uploaded using the according CDS views, SAP Hybris Cloud for Customer via OData API, SAP SuccessFactors via Connector, and/or SAP BW Queries. In 2017 it is planned to add on-line data acquisition. The following detailed views will be provided  and are based on customer feedback – note that those  analytics just serve as templates.

  • Financial Results: Overview of financial performance based on P&L, PI’s, and account positions

  • Portfolio Performance: Assessment of portfolio performance based on contribution margins

  • Sales: Future oriented analysis of the sales pipeline based on opportunities, forecasting and target planning.

  • HR: Overview on the most important of HR indicators.

  • Health and Safety: Report on incidents, near misses and safety observations including root causes and areas of concern.

For 2017, it is planned to launch the next innovation wave with co-innovation customers, and seats are still available. Members of the ENR development team will be around during the upcoming Best Practice for Chemicals event in Houston and would be more than happy to demo the Digital Boardroom for Chemicals, discuss, and start co-innovation for the business content yet to come. Major elements on the 2017 roadmap are predictive analytics and value driver based simulations to enrich the Digital Boardroom content for Chemicals.
