SMTP Enhancements in 4.2 SP04

Hello, there!

Let’s quickly browse through a set of three enhancements done in 4.2 SP04 for SMTP destination on the Job Server.

On the Job Server Destination page, when you click on the ‘Enable SSL’ checkbox you get access to three new properties:

  • SMTP Certificate
  • Connection Security and
  • TLS Version

You can use “SMTP Certificate” text box to configure the absolute path for SMTP Certificate now (no need to copy it to the default directory now). If this field is left blank, it is changed to “%SI_DEFAULT_CERT_LOC%” which means the default directory which is the platform folder (for ex. win64_x64) inside the enterprise folder.

You also will have access to Connection Security drop-down once you enable SSL on the Job Server Destination page. As of 4.2 SP04, you can select connection security from either of these two: STARTTLS or SSL/TLS. (Make sure similar settings are configured on the SMTP server that you are trying to connect through Business Objects)

From the TLS Version drop-down menu, you can select either of these three TLS versiond: TLSv1.0, TLSv1.1 or TLSv1.2. For security, SSLv3 has been discontinued and won’t be supported from 4.2 SP04 onward.

Here is a screenshot of the enhancements:

Please note: The ‘Enable SSL’ checkbox has been discontinued from the ‘Report Scheduling’ page for security and rights. The page looks like this now:

(Notice the unavailability of ‘Enable SSL’ checkbox.)

We might update this space with new information as required.

What if I dont have the Certificate Details?

We are using email services of a 3rd Party and they are not giving us the Certificate Details.

And we must use the TLS Authentication Option so I have to tick Enable SSL option

      Thanks a lot Denis.

I am bit confused here as some of our Application that run on .Net are able to use the SMTP service without mentioning any certificate. So how come it is mandatory for BO?
