Productive use of the ByDesign HTML5 UI with 1702

Scope

From https://blogs.sap.com/2017/02/03/release-of-sap-business-bydesign-1702/ you learned that “HTML5 user interface for all application areas along with the self-service features will be available for productive usage.

The documentation on “What’s new?” (Release Information Wiki, help portal) in addition reads “HTML5 client is available to run features and functions necessary for CRM, Financials, SRM, HCM, SCM, Projects, and Self Service business scenarios.”

How can you translate these statements into a decision whether or not to use the HTML5 User Interface for certain user roles?

The functionality required for typical end users is thus now available for productive use in the HTML5 UI. However, the HTML5 UI is not yet feature complete. In particular functionality that would typically be needed by a key user as well as customer-specific UIs added by a partner are not available yet.

The following work centers are not available as of now in productive tenants:
(Please note that these work centers can be accessed and tested in any test tenant)

  • Application and User Management
  • Business Configuration
  • Business Analytics
  • Service Control Center
  • Corporate Performance
  • Work centers and views developed by Partners or Service Center

Also flags, tags and favorites on object instances are not yet supported.

There are still a few limitations, which we list & update in case document 2372377 . You can easily find this document by searching for ‘Limitations in HTML5’ in the integrated SAP Business ByDesign help functionality.

If you have embedded components, please verify that they are working. Because of technical restrictions some components will not work as of now.

If you run into an issue please report it via an incident. As long as fixing this issue does not pose a risk to destabilizing other parts of the solution we will do this via Hotfix collections. Otherwise issues will be fixed with the next release.

We recommend that you verify if all work center views your users need are supported. If this is the case, we encourage you to use the HTML 5 User Interface.

As a fallback, we recommend to have a Browser available that supports the Silverlight UI.

HTML5 Roadmap

With 1705 we intend to close most of the remaining limitations listed above as well as adding the necessary functionality for business configuration and application and user management.

We plan to make work centers and views developed by Partners or Service Center available for productive use with 1708. In urgent cases we can look at making them available on a case-by-case basis with 1705. Also some key user features like for example MashUp Authoring or further usage of extension fields are planned to be available with 1708.

We plan to make HTML5 the default UI once all screens are available and will then start to phase-out the Silverlight UI. The concrete release will also be determined based on the feedback from our customers and partners.

Feedback on the HTML5 UI

So far we have received a lot of encouraging feedback for the HTML5 user interface. We are dedicated to providing you with a awesome user experience and are constantly striving for further improvements. Therefore, we would appreciate it very much if you could take the time to fill out the survey on HTML5 available in ByDesign. You can access it by clicking on the “Give feedback” symbol in the upper right corner of the HTML5 UI.

How to access the HTML5 UI

You can start it by adding html to the client_type parameter of your launch URL. For example, if the URL for your Business ByDesign system is https://my1234567.sapbydesign.com, then you can construct the URL to HTML5 client by adding “/sap/public/byd/runtime?client_type=html”.

The launch URL for starting HTML5 version should look like this: https://my1234567.sapbydesign.com/sap/public/byd/runtime?client_type=html.

To construct the URL for single sign on HTML5 client, add –sso to domain and add “/sap/byd/runtime?client_type=html”.

The launch URL for your SAP Business ByDesign system should then look like this: https://my1234567–sso.sapbydesign.com/sap/public/byd/runtime?client_type=html.

      Hi Carol Casey

The current version of 1608 is lookalike C4C system, and response from the server also much more faster than the Silverlight and Previous 1605 HTML5 Version. The above mentioned WOC are avilable in 1605&1608 versions.

I am testing the html5 system functionality, Hopefully expecting the final UI announcement at this Xmas (or)2018 Beginning.
