Automatically marking as “read”

It’s looking like to me that the functionality for marking notifications as “read” is only working if I perform the “jump” to item from the notifications screen.

If I right-click an item in my notifications stream and open it in a new window, it doens’t ever mark that item as read.  the next time I log back in to the system, the notification stil shows as unread.

I open items all the time in a new window as for some reason it is blazing fast compared to just clicking on the link and going to the item.

This has been discussed in several places, and they are aware of the left-click only feature that was rolled out in the last update.  Sorry - I'm not a search guru, so I don't have the stamina to find the links to bind these discussions together 😉

I came across both posts today. So here is the link.

One comment also says that Ctrl+Left click (open in new tab) is able to mark the thing as read.

Same should happen for Shift+Left click (open in new window).

Thanks for linking the other thread 🙂  It would appear that other than the simple left click, only the shift+click works (at least with IE11).  My standard use case has been to click the wheel on my external mouse, and this does not mark the thread as read, nor does the control+click.  Not sure if other browser behave differently or not...

But... why did you blog about it and not created a discussion in the CC? ^^

      That's really not a good sign. ^^

They wanted to deactivate the "Coffee Corner" tag for blogs, but I guess they didn't get around doing it yet.
