SAP Active with New Implementation Scenario

In my earlier blogs, we have detailed on what is S4H On Premise, HEC editions and also SAP Active methodology. In this blog, we are going to look at S4H New implementation scenario with SAP Active Methodology. The new implementation is either converting from SAP ECC system or Legacy system to S4H with by greenfield implementation. The New implementation could be of 2 flavours On-Premise Edition & HANA Enterprise Cloud Edition. In this blog, we are focusing on both the flavours.

SAP Active is the methodology recommended by SAP for transiting to S4HANA by all the 3 transition scenarios, namely New Implementation, System Conversion and Landscape Transformation. SAP Active comes with three principles Best practices, Methodologies & Guided configurations and with 4 stages Prepare, Explore, Realize & Deploy.

Prepare:
Planning & Discover: The preparation starts with a plan and advisory phase either by SAP Product Expert team or by consulting partners. In this phase, we offer free trail for 30 days to explore the S4H functionalities and new business processes that might interest the customer. Since we are discussing on-premise edition, SAP offers with CAL (Cloud Appliance Library), a customer can choose to go with public cloud partners like Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. Alternatively, SAP also offers installation software either by blue ray disc or by SAP Download manager if customer wish to have on-premise trial edition for 30 days.

Explore: By end of preparation phase, we have a SAP S4H system trail system either on the public cloud or on on-premise server installed. S4H trail comes with a pre-configured environment and a model company which is ready to run.  S4H Trail version comes with the pre-configured organisational data, master data and also with reporting content and integration with other SAP cloud solutions like Ariba, C4C etc which are relevant to this specific product. In this phase, we can pursue the fit-gap analysis and record the same in solution manager 7.2. At this point of time, the customer may decide to go with S4H implantation, SAP sales team will provide the detailed licencing cost for various options.

Realise: By end of Explore phase, we are done with the fit-gap analysis and recorded it in Sol-Man and also we have complete system landscape after the required licence from SAP. In this realisation phase configurations, developments & data migration takes place.

Configurations:

Based on the fit-gap analysis from the explore phase, we activate the required business functionalities for the on-premise edition. Activation of development system occurs in three steps.

1. Import Best Practice reference content, this includes importing of solution scope files and installation files.
2. Here we select the scope of the items and that we want to configure and use in the system.
3.  Activation of Application & Configuration data of selected scope into the system table and application data. For cloud edition, we go with guided configuration and the new concept self-service configuration which targets business user-centric applications. Based on the fit-gap analysis additional development and configurations need to be performed. Several levels of testings including unit testing, integration testing, Functional testing all to be performed in this phase.

Data Migration:

The final part of the realisation phase is  Data Migration. Data migration is one of the key aspects of SAP implementation, in past we have seen many data migration projects consume extended time and money because of not having enough tools. SAP has focused this area and provided world class tool  "SAP Business Objects Data Services" which works to Extract, Transform and Load the data.
SAP offers a data migration services and expert consulting community ready to assist. SAP Data Migration services consist of templates, framework, methodology tools and expertise to validate and integrate to SAP ERP.  More on Data Migration project can be seen in -   Data migration.

If the source system is SAP ERP system, we have performed the source to target mapping where we provide you with pre-defined mapping from ERP to S4H using SAP Business Objects.( We may compare this as integration between ERP and S4H system we may user ALE-IDOC technology for data migration)

If your source system is non-SAP legacy system, we provide the canonical format we map to SAP business objects in S4H. (we may compare this as  program to upload the data using BAPI in ECC).

Deploy:
After the realisation phase, we provide role-based learning content for both key users and end users. In-depth content is available in SAP Learning Hub. The final step of the SAP Active implementation project is production support. SAP Sol-Man is one tool which is integrated with S4H on-premise edition to provide support and monitoring the operations and SAP provides all the best practice configuration documents and also the project relevant documentation.

All the 4 stages of the SAP Active can go thru several times as and when the customer needs to explore and adopt new business functionalities. The Customer just needs to follow the business functions of SAP provided model company and implement the cycle again and it is where SAP innovates along with customer with SAP Active.
