This year the Apple iPhone will be 10 years old and the disruption is still being felt in the enterprise. When its stable mate the iPad came along 7 years ago and joined the digital disruption the impact on “Mobile First design” was fully realised.

Now the Apple iPhone and iPad did not create the disruption all by themselves, but were part of a movement which hinged on the technology based not just on mobility but also on cloud computing, analytics, big data and social media. These are changing the enterprise.

But why Apple, why not Andorid / Blackberry / Windows Phone / Others ? Simply put the TOC total cost of ownership is lower, especially for an enterprise. And if you combine that with a suite of enterprise apps that look and operate just like standard iOS apps, then you are adding low enterprise support to the equation. I will go into greater detail on this point in later blogs.

The impact of Apple iOS is huge in enterprise, almost all Fortune 500 companies are using these mobile devices today within their business, mobilising their data. Another aspect that enterprise likes is the built in security these devices come with. For more on iOS and security see www.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf

Now with the SAP – Apple partnership approaching its first GA release, it is time to read up on how to design iOS apps which can talk to your SAP enterprise. Read those notes here https://experience.sap.com/Fiori-design-ios

For more detail see Ian Thain’s Blogs, He is Global Developer Relations at SAP and has written three blogs on iOS. These include  iOS in the EnterpriseDesigning for iOS and Building for iOS
