DEV201: IoT Developer Experience for Building IoT Applications Efficiently – SAP TechEd Lecture of the Week
This session is about how IoT Developers can quickly model and connect physical things to the SAP Hana Cloud Platform, generate and store data, and create powerful visualizations using predefined application templates.
When I held the session in Las Vegas and Barcelona the offering had actually not been available yet. In the meantime the product was launched and is now generally available: SAP Enables Fast and Efficient Development with New IoT Application Services
The session focuses on three major aspects of IoT Application Development:
- Modelling Things: We create a virtual representation of the physical device or product first using a dynamic software model called the digital twin. How does a digital twin work? Let’s say, for example, you manufacture industrial goods. A digital twin can help you understand how customers use your goods. The goal is to continuously improve the product to increase customer satisfaction and identify opportunities for new products and services. In order to enable this SAP’s digital twin enriches the pure sensor information with a business context providing a 360° view on the product and its relationships
- Connecting Things: Receive a security token on the device, on-board it and collect first data
- Developing Applications: IoT Applications Services from SAP run on a Cloud Foundry supported micro-service architecture. Micro-services can be freely combined to processes or composites which expose data to the User Interface. We show how we can consume such services and create a ready-to-run SAP UI5 application in the SAP Web IDE based on a map-based IoT application template
