Executive Summary

Digital transformation is leading companies to adapt more and more cloud solutions. The cloud solutions allow companies to scale as the business demand changes. However, most of these enterprises also have their on-premise applications for the time being required to run, at lease while they are moving on to cloud.  During this transition period the challenge is to integrate both on-premise and cloud solutions for a comprehensive analytical need.  We have identified four scenarios based on our experience with customers.  For this discussion, we have decided to use SAP SuccessFactors and the on-premise solution.   In a series of blogs, we will explain each scenario and how customers can overcome comprehensive analytical needs of Human Capital Management (HCM).

Scope

As mentioned on the above section, following are the four options on this regard:

  1. SAP HCM and SuccessFactors mixed scenario: ECC and SF as source to produce reporting on BO Product Suite or BusinessObjects Cloud or 3rd party BI tools

  2. SAP HCM only as HR solution: ECC as source and BW as next data warehousing tier then BO Product Suite or BusinessObjects Cloud or 3rd party BI tools

  3. SAP SuccessFactors only as HR Solution: SF as source and BI reporting via BO Product Suite or BusinessObjects Cloud or 3rd party BI tools

  4. SuccessFactors and Non SAP HR solutions: SuccessFactors and Non SAP as source to produce reporting on BO Product Suite or BusinessObjects Cloud

In a series of blogs we will cover all four scenarios and design principles to address reporting need.  First and foremost this blog will cover the on-premise SAP HCM and Cloud Solution SuccessFactors

Design

For Human Resources, subject areas like Employee, Benefits, Compensation, Payroll, Personal Development, Learning, Recruiting, Travel, Compliances and Government Rules, there are no encompassing analytical solution that can provide an easy, faster and integrated approach to its audience.  Specially, SAP’s acquisition of new systems and 3rd party systems on HR, there is no common solution on analytics. Target audience need to connect and work with multiple systems for reporting needs and need to do manual consolidation. Simply, there is no single point of entry to a complete reporting and dashboarding solution on HR. This is affecting all industries.

Approach

Hybrid HR Analytics, the Human Resources Business Intelligence (All In One) develops a custom solution that alleviates Human Resources related data extraction from different source systems to a single front end. This uses SAP’s latest toolset on cloud – BusinessObjects Cloud, which provides any level of human resource reporting needs with forecasting and predictive analytical capability.

For this common front end following sources can be connected, as explained in the table below:

Conclusion

In summary, it is imperative to design a HR data warehouse which is in line with overall strategy of a company; unlike other data warehouse, traditionally the HR data is bound to local and federal government statutory requirement to protect any personal information.  These protection levels varies state to state, country to country.  Therefore, any organization which is deciding to build their HR data warehouse should determine whether to implement the solution on cloud or on premise.  Once it is determined selecting integration and data staging strategy needs to be decided.  It is crucial to select the tools that can be used for all of the integration points rather than multitudes of tools.  SAP considers the SAP HANA Cloud Platform as the layer which enables integration between on premise and cloud applications and providing a single point for data convergence and reporting.
