In today's analytics world, visualization has taken on a very important role. But not all visualizations are "created equal," and choosing between them can be very difficult.  Look at the following different charts (Thanks to Creator). Do you think that all of these charts demonstrate the core features of analytics products? If you ask me, then I’d have to say “'No.”

So how do you decide which visualization to use? How do you answer the question, “What would I like to show (and how)?” If you’re like most businesses, most of the time you end up creating reports with the same look and feel or you use the same charts repeatedly but with different content. These kinds of reports end up confusing and failing to capture the audience’s interest.

How Do You Choose a Data Visualization?

So what's the solution?? Do you:

  • Contact a product company to add new chart and wait for months? or

  • Ask your consulting firm to extend the core feature by paying them extra and wait for the long delivery time? or

  • Perform a random search on the Internet and spend time evaluating companies’ offerings and the quality of the charts?

As a consumer of the analytics reports, your main job is to make decisions—it’s not to spend time finding different visualizations or deciding who is the best provider. So do you really think taking those few steps will solve your requirements in good time and with good quality?

Simplify Your Search

In order to make your decision making simpler, SAP has introduced the SAP Analytics Extensions Directory. It’s your one stop “shop” for all sort of analytics extensions from free to paid, partners to vendors, and beta extensions to certified extensions (and more).

In my next blog, I will write about the important and salient features of our new portal.

Stay tuned…
