Due to a dramatic drop in commodity prices, oil and gas companies have seen their revenues cut significantly. They are keenly focused on cash flow and cutting costs. Many are deferring investment decisions and looking for ways to reduce recurring costs. But Murphy Oil decided that the current downturn was the perfect time to undergo a full-scale digital transformation.  Using a template approach, they went from having none of their assets on SAP, to having all global assets online within 25 weeks.

To run more efficiently under significant cost constraints, Murphy Oil applied the latest digital technologies for upstream operations, production, procurement, maintenance, finance, revenue, HR, and other functions. Software included cloud-based Accenture Upstream Direct on the SAP HANA platform, and SAP Ariba and SAP SuccessFactors solutions.
