Hello,

I would like to inform you that with the release of SAP S/4HANA 1610 we published the Simplification List for SAP S/4HANA 1610 (initial Shipment) as PDF and as XLS.

  • You can find the link to the Simplification List PDF in the SAP S/4HANA 1610 Help (Link) or here as direct link to the pdf: LINK
  • The XLS is included as Attachment in SAP Note 2313884
  • The related custom code check content on SAP Service Marketplace is updated with the SAP S/4HANA 1610 content (see SAP Note 2241080 how to access the content).

The Simplification List Items and corresponding Business Impact Notes
The text of the Simplification Items included in this Simplification List is generated based on corresponding SAP Notes (they are called in the context of the Simplification List the Business Impact Notes). Examples:

  • Business Partner Approach –> Business Impact Note: 2265093
  • Material Number Field Length Extension –> Business Impact Note: 2267140

You can find the corresponding Business Impact Note in the Simplification List as XLS. The Business Impact Note might contain additional information related to the Simplification Item. For example references to other SAP Notes or additional How-To-Guides. For example there the Simplification Item related to the Business Partner Approach contains a PDF describing the detailed Business Partner Conversion Activities. Please be aware that we do not include these additional information in the Simplification List document. In this sense the Simplification List document is always a collection of the texts of the dedicated Simplification Item which is stored as original in the corresponding Business Impact Notes. In case you have questions or requests to improve the text related to a Simplification Item feel free to open a support ticket based on the component of the Business Impact note. The generation of the Simplification List document based on the business impact note does have an influence to the format and the length of this document.
New Simplification List Items with SAP S/4HANA 1610
With SAP S/4HANA 1610 the functional scope of SAP S/4HANA has been enhanced. For example additional industries are supported (e.g. Oil and Retail are supported now) or the SAP Add-On SAP Portfolio and Project Management 1.0 for SAP S/4HANA. Accordingly there are additional Simplification Items listed in this document which go aside to this enhanced functional scope of SAP S/4HANA. In the Simplification List as XLS the Simplification Items which are new with SAP S/4HANA 1610 are marked accordingly.

The Simplification List Items as XLS
Beside the Simplification List as PDF (this document) the Simplification List is available additionally in XLS format as attachment of SAP Note 2313884. In this note you can find different XLS spreadsheets for the different SAP S/4HANA releases. The Simplification List 1610 spreadsheet does contain the following information:

  • Simplification Items which are new with SAP S/4HANA 1610
Items which are new and related to the industries Oil and Retail (supported with SAP S/4HANA 1610)
  • Simplification Items related to SAP Add-On Portfolio and Project Management (PPM)
  • New “Core” items in SAP S/4HANA (this includes items which changed their simplification category – example: industry DIMP-Automotive – simplification “Long Material Number”)
  • Simplification Items which are relevant for the upgrade from SAP S/4HANA On-Premise edition 1511 to SAP S/4HANA 1610

Kind Regards,
Frank

    Hello,
    for your information:
with S/4HANA 1610 new PP/DS functionality is available. The following SAP Note (2381624 – Release Information Note: Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling for SAP S/4HANA 1610) provides related information and the things whcih are different from PP/DS within SAP APO. These information are not explained as “SImplification Items” because (simplfied spoken) the S-List describes the things which are different between SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA.

    Kind Regards,
    Frank

      Hi Frank,

It was mentioned in SAP Note 2353836 (Release Information Note: Monitor Capacity Utilization app, Production Scheduling Board app on SAP FIORI FOR SAP S/4HANA 1610, Release S/4HANA 10/2016) that “The apps activated by the Advanced Planning and Scheduling switch are not part of the standard SAP S/4HANA Enterprise license. A dedicated license for Advanced Planning and Scheduling is required if this switch is set to Active.” Would you know the product name of this separate license?

      Regards,

      Joseph Tagab

Frank, While I appreciate that Simplification list is a list of difference between ECC and S4HANA, now that PP/DS, EWM and PLM are embedded into S4HANA I was expecting to find all the differences related to these products also in the simplification guide or atleast link provided. I think PLM is in the simplification guide, PP/DS is in a separate PDF and I haven’t found EWM yet anywhere.

Also we found your simplification post for 1511 very useful. While I did find some of the simplification blogs the main document was not migrated to the new SCN. http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-70833. I think a similar series for 1610 would be appreciated.

    Hello Devraj,

    1. PP/DS, EWM
Basically I understand your comment. So let me explain why these information are not included in the Simplification List: Basically the Simplification List describes the things which are different in SAP S/4HANA compared to SAP ERP (ECC6.0 – any EHP). Things which are different after a System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA should be mentioned within the S-List. The PP/DS functionality are not coming to S/4HANA with the system conversion. These functionalities  are not available on SAP ERP. They are available with SAP APO. There is no supported system conversion path from SAP APO to SAP S/4HANA. In this sense PP/DS is a new functionality coming with S/4HANA 1610 which was not available on SAP ERP. New S/4HANA functionalties are described in the feature scope description.
The PP/DS colleagues have provided the following SAP Note (2381624 Release Information Note: Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling for SAP S/4HANA 1610) to provide dedicated information for customers using PP/DS.

    2.TOP Item SCNLink
It´s not available due to some technical issues as part of the new SCN apporach. The issue is addressed.

    Kind Regards,
    Frank

      Hello Tyronne,

sorry – no I do not have specific information here at hand. So I just googled the PPM Add-On (the official name for the version which can be used as add-on to SAP S/4HANA 1610 is: SAP Portfolio and Project Management 1.0 for SAP S/4HANA –> https://help.sap.com/ppms4

    Frank,

I want to look at ways to assess the transition of ECC landscapes to S/4HANA Cloud (public/private).

Is there a Simplification List for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Edition 1611? Or is that planned for the future?

I know how to access/have the Simplification Lists for On-Prem editions 1511 and 1610, but when I search for “SAP S/4HANA Simplification List 1611,” I get the list for 1511 among other results. I have Road Maps for both On-Prem 1610 and Cloud 1611 and the Simplification List for 1610. I was expecting to find a Simplification List as well – or am I missing something?

    Best regards,

    Heiko

    Hello Heiko,

the S-List is a On-Premise Only List. We do not have a S-List for Cloud. One reason is that in Cloud we more strictly follow the “principle of one”. For example we do ot offer SAPGui for Window as entry point. Another reason is that in cloud the customer implements the standard cloud processes. They might be different to the processes he is having in SAP ERP.

    Kind Regards,
    Frank

    Hello Frank,

I understand the simplification list is the critical document when we convert to S/4HANA from ECC6.0.

So our team staff are carefully review the list because.

In chapter 2.1.10.1 Data model inventory management, we are facing the difficulty to understand what that means. So could you please restate the following sentence in different word.

(not somewhere in between which may happen if a table is composed by include structures like for MARC)

It describes at the seventh line from the bottom on page 177 in Simplification List 1610(ISS).

    Best,

    Ken

      Hello Ken,

the source of the S-List is a corresponding SAP Note (where the text of the single S-Item is maintained). For Inventory Manangement the note is 2206980 – Material Inventory Managment: change of data model in S/4HANA.

Please create a ticket on the component of the S-Item. (in this case Component:MM-IM-GF). Reference to the SAP Note ( 2206980 – Material Inventory Managment: change of data model in S/4HANA) and raise your concerns and request adaption of the text.

      Kind Regards,

      Frank

        Hi Frank,

        Thank you for your advice.

I will create a ticket and send it to there.

I also find that Simplification List 1610 (FPS01), which has released on 22nd Feb, added the each component and related SAP note in each article. So if I have the same situation or questions , I can easily access to the appropriate section.

It is a very helpful information for us.

        Best,

        Ken

    Hi Frank,

Would you know about the seemingly missing functionality of PPDS with Capable to Promise in the S4 HANA  1610 instance? What is the path forward with aATP not covering it in S4. Are customers expected to retain the SCM-gATP module & run the CTP call from there back into S4-PPDS?

Any information on this would be helpful
