Make Your Cloud Less Daunting

With the increasing acceptance of cloud hosting, you can hear success stories of cloud hosting benefits. However, migrating data and applications to the cloud is a tedious job. Many organizations are still reluctant to migrate their data and applications to cloud because of the challenges they might face during migration.

To make your migration a smooth one, follow some simple and systematic steps:

1) Inventory of Infrastructure:

Make an inventory of your entire infrastructure before you transfer your data and applications to cloud. Classify your inventory into physical, virtual environment and critical components like specific physical operating systems. Such classification aids you to be in a better position to decide which applications or data should be continued on premise and which should be moved to cloud server.

2) Provisioning of Physical Systems:

Physical systems are crucial to business activities hence will always remain an important part of the IT infrastructure. Physical systems consume a lot of time in migration so people have to think twice to migrate physical systems to cloud. But, it is very much beneficial to transfer physical systems to cloud. Make sure to choose the cloud provider who provides the provision of physical systems in the cloud. It is recommended that the physical systems or workload should be in vicinity to the migrated virtual machines.

Don’t go with the traditional ways of migrating the applications and data to the cloud as it can cause downtime. If you opting for traditional way of migrating then have support of disaster recovery options that can help in smoothening the process.

3) Seeding or manual migration:

Seeding is a good option for migration. However, where virtualized environment is growing seeding is a costly affair. But, if the applications and data are huge, seeding is the best option than manual migration. Encrypted drives are provided by the vendor which consists of data that is to be migrated. With this, you can manually import the data in the cloud with the help of a technician.

4) Present bandwidth and configuration:

As migration to cloud is a time consuming task, it consumes a lot of bandwidth. Before migrating your data and applications to cloud make sure you have sufficient bandwidth and configured systems that do not create obstacles while migration process takes place.

5) Managing workloads in the cloud:

Many organizations just sit back after migration is done. However, post migration is very crucial. Ongoing management should always be considered. Many cloud providers do not give detailed data about migration or any instinct oriented tool. And then, managing the workloads becomes a burden which most of the organizations have to bear. Choose a cloud partner who not only supports cloud migration but also providing management tools, planning as per your needs, providing solutions to your requirements which are needed post migration.

If you make a right decision of choosing a good cloud platform like SAP then just sit back and have peace of mind as migrating to cloud will allow you to focus on your business and leveraging new opportunities.
