SAP Labs CIS with support of CIS Market Unit SAP CIS ran Innovation Forum: SAP for ISV's (Independent Software Vendors) in IT-Park of Kazan on October 18 and 19, 2016. It was the 4th Innovation forum for ISVs after the ones in Minsk, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.

It was the fourth event of this kind. We decided to come to Kazan with it, as Tatarstan is one of the best developed regions in Russia, where ecosystem of innovation grows under significant support by local administration. Moreover, the idea of the Head of Tatar Republic is to make Kazan an IT capital of Russian Federation within several years. IT-Parks of Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny together with the city of Innopolis – a special city constructed from scratch for innovation entrepreneurs and academia – are the ambitious projects that already work today; almost everybody in Russia heard about them. The same time, there are many SAP customers in the region, such as Tatneft, KAMAZ, and TAIF. And there are IT-companies serving them and developing their own software solutions for them. Thus, using SAP technological platform to build their solutions for our common customers can become a good basis for our co-innovation with these vendors. So, the choice was obvious. IT-Park in Kazan is also the wonderful modern venue in the city-center we enjoyed to use for our event.

See a short movie on how all it was:

The Ministry of communication and informatization of Tatarstan Republic together with IT-Park of Kazan supported our initiative with enthusiasm and assisted in inviting forum attendees. Deputy Minister Timur Zaripov joint the Forum with his greeting words in the start. He did emphasize the importance for local IT-businesses to cooperate with the leading International vendors such as SAP and advised participants to catch such an opportunity to enter the Global market.

Andrej Bievetski, Managing director at SAP Labs in CIS took his microphone after Timur and promised to support every local software business, which is ready to co-innovate with SAP, developing their products and solutions based on SAP technological platforms.

The idea of the Forum is simple: to tell our potential ISV partners about all SAP co-innovation opportunities and offerings, and to demonstrate the advantages they get if cooperate with SAP.

Therefore, the structure of the Forum followed the logics of our goals. The first day we were speaking for business leaders who make decisions on where to go and with whom to partner. The second day way was fully dedicated to hands-on experience of making application on HANA Cloud Platform.

First, Alexander Arnold, Head of Strategic industries in MEE, demonstrated that SAP knows technological trends well, understands how they change today's business and transform the one in the future, and has already developed technologies, which help companies to win while these trends become the reality.

Second, we invited those partners who co-innovate with SAP to share their positive experience of cooperating and using SAP technologies in their work; it is the best way to convince those, who has no such and experience at least to try.

The Center of information security from the University of Innopolis told about their cognitive system for monitoring of cyberspace. The system runs on SAP HANA and makes analysis of unstructured data for cyber-security systems.

ASUproject, the partner of SAP Co-Innovation Lab, told about their solution UFAM by OIS – Upstream Field Activity Management system, so called Intellectual oilfield system, developed on SAP HANA for oil production companies. This solution is a close candidate to enter SAP partner price-list (it means that SAP salesforce will sell this solution directly to customers as a joint one).

Third, we demonstrated SAP co-innovation model – the approach SAP uses to cooperate with IT-developers. Viacheslav Gershov, Business development director at SAP Labs in CIS told about the overall approach, and the colleagues one by one continued with presentations of OEM/ISV, PaaS licensing models and PartnerEdge Build (Alexey Burov, Head of OEM and ISV partner department), SAP Co-Innovation Lab (Svetlana Matzkevich, COIL expert), Integration and certification center (Rustem Rymkulov, ICC Head in CIS), and Startup Focus  program (Viacheslav Gershov).

Fourth, Roman Gumenyuk, business solutions from COIL, and Ekaterina Tarchinskaya, architect from support team, told about SAP HANA and SAP HANA Cloud platform, their capabilities and use cases in Industrial Internet of things, Machine learning, and other areas, as well as demonstrated some SAP solution based on these technologies for logistics. This part was the final one for the agenda of the first day. More than 50 attendees from about 40 software companies from Tatarstan took all this to their attention.

CodeJam – a hands-on session for programmers – was the entire second-day action. Vasiliy Sukhanov, former core HANA developer and today's technological expert at COIL, together with Roman Gumenyuk ran the master-class. Based on HCP, the attendees had to develop a cloud application, which builds routs for travelling in the city of Kazan by public transportation. All the participants were successful with this tasks, although it was not too easy. It helped the attendees to get some basics of HCP and programming on it as well as to get some impression on the capabilities of SAP technology.
