Month of Service (MoS) is in full swing as the Silicon Valley celebrates its 12
th anniversary! This year, we are working toward a goal of full participation from all SAPsv employees.

I have been with SAP for over 2 years now and from the beginning I stepped into a Volunteer Ambassador role– not only planning events, but supporting as a volunteer. This is my third consecutive year and so far I have had the opportunity to water trees at Stanford, help students learn about technology at the Tech Museum, and support organizations such as RAFT, HOBA, City Team and more.

On Saturday October 8th I was at Las Positas College at 5 a.m. ready to support C4V an event better known as Cycling for Veterans. As a veteran and military supported event, C4V is leading the way in Northern California, and this year they featured three epic rides including 30 miles, 55 miles, and 115 miles! The C4V event is dedicated to support military veterans and current in-service personnel. All fundraising directly benefits veteran and active military organizations.

Supporting the event were volunteers not only from SAPsv, but also the organization itself. Even bright and early in the morning, everyone was happy and eager to pitch in wherever needed. In between my shifts I was able to get to know the people I was volunteering with. A number of them were with the Cycling Affinity Group at SAP sporting their matching team outfits along with a big smile. Others were from HR, CSR, or even Fieldglass–which was very exciting. No matter the department from SAP, it was unanimous that volunteering is not only a great way to pay it forward, but also to connect with employees you might not have been able to meet otherwise.

Before we knew it cyclists started showing up.  With the singing of the National Anthem completed, the riders were off. As I was driving home after my shift that day, I was reminded of just how lucky we as SAPsv employees are to have the opportunity to participate in Month of Service and support events such as C4V every year. I can’t wait until next year but until then, I hope to see you at the next event.
