Recently more users are selecting to use the new version of ERP and also new version of the operating system.(EHP8 and Windows server 2012)
This blog aims to address the differences from the old version(EHP7 and Windows server 2008 R2). As the installation processes are almost the same, here I listed several points on new installation and you can have a whole view of the installation combining this blog to the installation guide of EHP7 on Windows server 2008 R2.
Then let us start the journey on EH8 for SAP ERP 6.0 on Windows server 2012 R2.
Difference 1:
The location to install the EHP7 and EHP8 are not the same.
For EHP7, you can find the installation under SAP Business Suite 7i 2013 Support Release 2.
But for EHP 8, you can find the installation under SAP Business Suite 7i 2016.
Difference 2:
This is a specific issue for Windows server 2012.
When you do the system prerequisites check, you will see the a highlight information below:
To solve this issue, you need to follow the instructions in SAP KBA 1823833.
https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/1823833
It is recommended that you can configure your operating system follow the solution part in SAP KBA 1823833 before the installation.
Difference 3:
This will be the biggest difference from EHP7 installation.
During the EHP7 installation, you will see the following page to select the kernel file.
But during the installation of EHP8, you will get the page below:
Here are two ways to upload the kernel files.
1. Using a kernel DVD.
2. Uploading individual files.
The first way is the same as the one we are using in EHP7.
But this way does not work in EHP8 installation.
If you choose the Netweaver 750 kernel file downloaded from software download center, you will get the error that the file cannot be found.
The root cause is that the version of the individual Kernel files in the Kernel DVD are too old, which means you need to download all new versions of the files.
You can check the SAP Note below to know where to get all the individual Kernel files.
https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/1680045
You will see the contents below:
So you need to download all the needed files and fill in the page like the example below:
The other parts of the installation are totally same as the one for EHP7.
You can follow the guide in the link of the first part in this blog to complete the whole installation.
Best regards,
Charlie
Great blog, thanks for the information. I see according to the PAM that EHP8 is not officially supported on Windows 2008 R2.
Do you know if it would work, though?
Actually it works.
Hi all,
Just finished an EHP 8 installation and realize that, but I got one big difference that you didn´t mentioned here, is that during my installation I was not asked to introduce the rest of the DVDs, I mean Languages, Java and Components, just the IE DVD was asked. Is this normal?
regards
NC\
Yes, it is normal. The language is installed after the server installation.
Good Work CZ !
