I’ve published the experience of TechEd 2016 at Bangalore of the first two days already. On 3rd day SCN was down for the migration activity and hence the delay in publishing the last day experience. The overall experience has definitely been great with few glitches which can certainly be taken care of next time!
The last day went pretty much like the second day with the exception that I hosted Sven Denecken for a live interview. The topic was S/4 HANA with a focus on APJ region. I think one of the key take away was supporting Make in India campaign with a dedicated manufacturing cloud.
Making quick progresses on the cloud version is definitely noteworthy.
The interview was real quick and duration was less than 10 minutes. Here is the link for those interested :
The next in the agenda was to attend couple of networking sessions before the first hands-on of the day. I felt networking sessions are a good way to get insights on a topic before attending the detailed session on the same. It could be even like if one missed the lecture sessions they at least have an option to know the subject. Networking sessions are better if one needs more one to one interaction for some specific points with the speaker as it’s very less crowded.
The first hands on of the day was ITM161 – Make your custom code S/4HANA ready: The new quality cockpit in CCLM.
The session was in the afternoon from 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm. It was actually surprising to see that the session was not overcrowded and there were mostly one attendee per system unlike two attendees per system the previous day. No much noise either before settling down in the room. I could see three coordinators for the session and with the session not being overcrowded they could handle it well. The instructor shared a good overview of the session before starting with the hands-on. Like the below slide shows based on few customers’ experience – 65% of the custom code has not been used during the last month.
The hands-on was well planned and had a clear instructions for the exercises to be done. The first part was to check custom code quality for S/4 HANA using ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) followed by the exercise of monitoring the project using CCLM quality cockpit. For readers interested in CCLM, my key take away is Custom Code Management is configured in Solution Manager that could help track the progress of a project over a defined frequency of time interval. This was the time when most of the attendees had already left the venue or were about to leave.
The event was about to end was even visible from tea and coffee stall 🙂
The last session of the day was “Advanced SQL script” from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. As expected, there were a lot of attendees for this session and this also highlights the fact that developers staying till the end means they would expect a lot amount of exposure from such sessions.
This session was also very good. The instructor maintained his energy till the end of the session and the coordinators were hopefully able to attend to most of the questions of the attendees. Most of us got exposure to HANA XS Advanced with this session. I couldn't click pictures for this one.

By the time I left the venue the place the show floor was almost empty.
The three days provided exposure to not just new tools and technologies but also diverse kind of people. The experience suggests that I could probably write “How to survive a Conference in Bangalore” to the benefit of many!
I can’t finish the blog without mentioning a question that I was asked on the first day of TechEd – “Are you here to code?”!
