Help, Completely Confused About New Forum.
I’m hopelessly confused on how to use the new forum and I don’t believe it’s intuitive enough to encourage new users…
There’s a reason that magazine web sites and your facebook home page are full of attractive things to click on! Can we do that?
Right now, the most obvious “browse” option just takes me to a search of tags that may or may not have anything to do with what I’m interested in — and it’s very “dumb” — i.e. “SME” or “SMB” or “Small business” (etc) brings up zero results, rather than hinting on what my high-level interest might translate to in terms of product tags.
E.g. A search for “analytics” brings up Predictive Analytics only, not anything else to do with BI, and if I go to that section there’s no links to any other BI areas, or any indication that they exist (unlike the old menuing, that at least showed that it was the subsection of something bigger)….
And I don’t think anybody will ever find a section like “business trends” unless they happen to have been sent there by a link…
And once I’m in a section I like, and I’d like to check it out sometimes, how do I get back to it? There’s no convenient menuing, or shortcut-storing, or anything that I can see?
And I just found out that I CAN’T EVEN POST THIS because it needs a primary tag, and I have NO IDEA what that tag should be!
I can’t believe there’s no “community” tag in the community! I also tried SCN (no) Forum (no) Ideas (no) Feedback (no)… +several swear words that didn’t work, either.
Finally — “coffee corner”. Probably not right place, but hey… (I did find “ideas” at one point — although it was really hard to find and refind, but this isn’t an idea, it’s more of a rant / plea 🙂 )
I’m a HUGE believer in community, it’s something we have to encourage, and optimize, and expand… HELP…
Have you tried "following" a space? Then that should show up in your activities https://activities.sap.com/#/notifications
I am also using a Custom Google Search here: bit.ly/1dxsearch to help find things a little easier.
The correct tag for help is "Using sap" 🙂
But how do I do that? I don't see any "follow" button when I go to a space?...
Here, I did a recording for you on one way to follow a tag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU3cplr6JSM&feature=youtu.be
Thanks! That works -- but I'm now I'm a bit confused about how the "browse" works -- e.g. search for "BusinessObjects" http://go.sap.com/community/topic.html?search=businessobjects doesn't bring up BusinessObjects cloud, even though it seems to be a "primary" tag? Is that just a bug? https://blogs.sap.com/sap/sap1/analytics/73554900100700001571/67838200100800006884/
Timo - for searching, I use the custom Google search at https://cse.google.com/cse/home?cx=013447253335410278659:5di2969x5we and if you search for BusinessObjects Cloud it will find it 🙂
You can also reflect upon the leftover laundry list from the beta feedback recap: http://go.sap.com/community/about.html, or take your chances of entering potentially repeat feedback or bugs in one of the two different channels mentioned here: https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/05/reporting-bugs-and-providing-feedback-after-go-live/ or Community Support here: http://go.sap.com/community.html
We've already seen double entries in the idea place channel, and expect that many issues will appear that have been reported months ago during beta...
Here is the tag link mentioned by Tammy: http://go.sap.com/community/tag.html?id=486157991894093153608181816584982
The "about" link was certainly useful -- I expected that sort of content at the "overview" link! Thanks...
Hi Timo,
Just a quick comment - to Tammy's point - that your blog should be tagged with the "Using SAP.com" tag. I've gone ahead and made the change. The Coffee Corner tag should not have been available as a tag (known bug).
Brian
Thanks for moving it 🙂
Still, it's not really about "using SAP.com" -- is there no "optimizing community" area?
Hi all,
Thanks for sharing the helpful links, but I and others on the team who are driving changes understand and agree with your frustration. There are changes that still need to happen to make the site easier to navigate. Your feedback is not falling on deaf ears, it just takes time to develop these changes.
@Timo, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. We also are hosting 3 live sessions this week to answer questions:https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/05/talk-to-community-experts-live-on-october-11-12-and-13/
Thanks for your patience while we work to implement many of the fantastic ideas we've gotten (as well as more obvious fixes, like a tag browser/picker).
Best,
Jamie
I am sorry to say this but this new community thing really sucks. You can't find what you are searching for. I have been trying to figure out how to use this new platform for three days. Searching how to use, and trying to see what other people are doing. I see a lot of people struggling with this. As @timo.elliott mentioned, this should be intuitive and easy to use. However it is not. Moderators are publishing how to documents and videos. We should not check out these documents and videos to see how we should use this community. Has anyone here watched any video or read any document when try to use facebook, twitter etc.? Why do that for this community?
I don't think people should spend so many days to figure out how to use this new platform.
I really think SAP deserves a better community platform than this one.
Best regards,
Zahid
I agree, its confusing, its complicated and why the Primary tag (without hint) for people to have an ide of what to key in. Also, I cant find my history page, so I can't continue from where I last stopped - It just cuts me off completely. hmmmm - talk about upgrade.
Adding a comment just so the blog appears in my activity feed (I just followed it as well). I was inspired to close the loop and test this issue: https://answers.sap.com/questions/29538/index.html
