On October 7th, the first official SAP CodeJam on “SAP Hybris as a Service on SAP HANA Cloud Platform” (short “YaaS”) was executed here in SAP Hybris’ home turf Munich, Germany. Thanks to @andrea.t@martin.steinberg, @gregor.wolf@damir.majer@roman.becker5 and everyone else involved for suggesting YaaS as a topic for this half-day live coding event! Within the afternoon, our developer Nemanja ran the 21 participants through the full YaaS story: The participants setup a local commerce storefront using the SAP Hybris Commerce as a Service packages and afterwards created and deployed their very first microservice on the Cloud Foundry of HCP.

In regards to the CodeJam, the open atmosphere and the fact that all of their questions got answered by us was a big plus. Furthermore, they liked the walkthrough of building their very own microservice – even though it was only one afternoon!

We’ll make sure that in future YaaS CodeJams, we’ll spend more time on highlighting customer success stories and customers’ concrete use cases. Furthermore, we’ll cover a roadmap of planned services and the future of YaaS itself.

In regards to the execution, we’ll make sure to

  • further align the “prepare yourself” email with the script of the day itself,
  • show the planned script at the beginning of the day, and
  • discuss the YaaS architecture before diving into the hands-on part.

All in all, the participants were very happy with the event which was reflected in a Net Promoter Score of +50% (i.e. 11 out of 18 completed feedback sheets indicated that participants would recommend joining a CodeJam on YaaS to their colleagues / peers).

Thanks to everyone for contributing, staying with us and for providing the feedback!
