Dear Valued Members of the SAP for Utilities Ecosystem,

October marks SAP’s annual month of service, when company employees across the globe come together to donate their time and talents to support numerous causes. Last year alone, more than 7,000 employees in North America impacted more than 500,000 lives.

This year, SAP is bringing its service efforts to the City of Huntington Beach. We’ll be offering nearly 1,000 attendees of the annual SAP for Utilities conference, from October 9–11, the chance to participate in the company’s signature volunteering initiative and give something back to the local community.

SAP and Sempra Energy, the host utility for the 2016 conference, have designated 2-1-1 San Diego as the beneficiary of the event’s charitable activities. 2-1-1 San Diego provides a free, 24-hour, confidential phone service and online searchable database. As a trusted, local, nonprofit organization with strong community partners, 2-1-1 San Diego connects people to over 15,000 community, health, and basic needs services. In times of disaster, 2-1-1 San Diego becomes a non-emergency disaster information source, providing up-to-the-minute incident status updates and working to connect callers to the resources they need.

Every day, the utilities industry makes an impact on communities worldwide. Let’s make a lasting impact on 2-1-1 San Diego by raising $10,000. SAP is already planning to donate $5,000 to this great cause, but we need your help to double this amount!

Here’s how you can help:

1. Track Your Steps During the Event

At the conference, attendees will be able to utilize their personal fitness trackers (such as a Fitbit or Jawbone device) to track and share their steps for the cause. If, together, attendees can hit 2.11 million steps by the close of the event on Wednesday, October 12, SAP will make an additional $5,000 donation to 2-1-1 San Diego on behalf of the utilities community. There will also be prizes awarded to participants throughout the event. Don’t have a fitness tracker? Don’t worry – attendees can download the Withings app upon arrival to track their steps via smart phone.

To help increase your steps, partake in the Sunrise Charity Walk Along the Beach, a 5k run/walk along the beach. The walk will take place on Tuesday, October 11, beginning at 6:00 a.m., and will be a great way to kick off day two of the conference. Early risers will be chosen at random to win a brand new Fitbit Surge!

2. Donate Online, Get your Contribution Matched, and Get Entered to Win

Unable to attend SAP for Utilities, or want to contribute more than steps? You can give directly to 2-1-1 San Diego by utilizing the dedicated funding page for the event here. All donations will be matched by The Parker Foundation. For every $10 donated online, your name will be entered to win an autographed football from our special guest, two-time Super Bowl Champion and 14-time Pro Bowl honoree, Peyton Manning.

The utilities community has never ceased to amaze in its dedication and generosity shown towards its customers. Please consider joining SAP and Sempra Energy in making a difference for the deserving and local nonprofit 2-1-1 San Diego!

All the best,

Lloyd Adams
