Leveraging NetApp infrastructure for large scale SAP IQ backups via virtual backup
Check out my latest blog on SAP Jam that discusses leveraging NetApp infrastructure for large scale SAP IQ backups via the virtual backup syntax.
Leveraging NetApp infrastructure for large scale SAP IQ backups via virtual backup
Hi Mark,
Fantastic Document! It speaks of real hard work and dedication to get the good detail down! Thank You for sharing!
I'd love to take all the credit, but that's just not fair. Fernando Santos (SAP Brazil) and the Brazil NetApp team worked tirelessly to get this done.

Hi, We are busy doing a technology review to build a data lake with IQ and SAP HANA. An issue as crept up wrt the size of the IQ Data Lake 5TB within the next 2-3 years and then escalating to 50TB raw data. How will one manage this environment as the backup and recovery can only be done on a database level? How would you setup the IQ environment that one can do a recovery quickly and also be able to recover a table when required?
Hi Rene,
I'm quite sure semantic partitioning and the utilization of readonly db spaces will have to be part of your approach. Containers (db spaces) containing data that will never change over a long time can be backed up once and for all and can be excluded from the regular backup routine. BTW, your 50 TB raw data may shrink substantially when stored inside IQ, depending on aspects like cardinality of columns
HTH after such a long time
