The first Internet of Things Info Day at SAP Silicon Valley in Palo Alto is just one example of an event, bringing SAP, customers, partners and start-ups together to share the latest innovation from the IoT market and showcase outcomes, which were not possible before.  SAP introduced a number of IoT solutions which enable business outcomes, including several solutions from the IoT Smart Connected Business team.

1)      Take the Edge as an example. SAP Dynamic Edge Processing is one of SAP’s latest IoT solutions, which extends the digital core of your business to the edge. SAP Dynamic Edge processing combines algorithms, synching architecture and customized database technology, allowing businesses to process much of their IoT data locally, where it’s created and needs to be consumed, securely and efficiently. In turn, this reduces the amount of sensor data that has to be transmitted, including associated costs, and enables business scenarios to capture data and insight when and where you need it.

2)      Another showcase example presented at the IoT Info-Day event was SAP Connected Goods – a new cloud-based IoT solution designed to maximize the value of high-volume, revenue generating consumer products, such as coolers, coffee makers and vending machines, through centralized monitoring and governance, combined with SAP back-end system integration. This solution helps enterprises remotely monitor, manage and control millions of connected devices to optimize operational efficiency and automation, reduce costs and enable innovative business models.

3)      SAP Digital Spaces is another innovative IoT solution, which helps optimize retail store operations and performance, while monitoring consumer behavior in the physical store, to better understand behavioral patterns and actions which impact buying decisions and ultimately profit. The solution relies on Wi-Fi sensors, cameras and beacon technology to show traffic patterns of people, crowds, and things, visualized on a heat map. Understanding these types of physical activities in the context of business (e.g. sales data) provides actionable insights to answer critical business questions, such as why products in a particular department are selling more than others or which aisle is the most popular in a retail store.
