Dear Ann,

On 16 and 17 May 2016, Professors and Lecturers converged in Cape Town, South Africa, for the 2nd ESEFA (www.esefa.ac.za) Members Workshop.

The 38 delegates represented 13 universities from 10 African countries, i.e. South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana and Mauritius.

A number of enablement sessions were held, amongst others on the new ABAP programming module, upgrade of the ESEFA ERP client to GBI 3.0, using the ESEFA portal, the UCC ticketing system and additional online video train materials for professors.

The SAP Learning Hub (Academic Edition) was presented and members were encouraged to register on this valuable learning resource.

Research on the ESEFA project statistics and the benefits of the programme were presented by Prof. Lisa Seymour from UCT.  The fact that the project trained more than 3000 students to date (against a project KPI of 1500!) was celebrated.

The financial sustainability plan for the programme was presented and discussed amongst the delegates.  Most expressed their gratitude for the concessions made and the additional support provided to keep the programme sustainable.

An SAP African Academic Forum was established and an Executive Committee elected.  The mission of this forum will be to coordinate efforts specific to the African context between SAP Africa, SAP UA, member universities and faculty, in a number of areas.

In order to broaden the horizons of African universities and to facilitate Digital Transformation, an awareness session was held on SAP’s next generation software, platforms and technologies.  An introduction to SAP HANA, HANA Cloud Platform, S/4HANA, SAP Cloud for Analytics, SuccessFactors, Concur, Fieldglass, Ariba, and Cloud for Customer, Mobile, SAP Fiori and SAP Lumira was done, with details on where to get more information, curriculum and software downloads. Professors were encouraged to explore these technologies and the curricula provided by SAP UA.

The event was concluded with an excellent evening dinner at the Pigalle Restaurant.  Most delegates stayed on in Cape Town to attend the international Conf-IRM conference on 18 and 19 May 2016.
