On June 27, the SAP University Alliances team welcomed a group of students coming from Geisenheim University, at the SAP Headquarters in Walldorf. These 13 students were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Erik Schweickert, professor of International Wine Business. The group is currently completing their last semester of their master degree in Geisenheim, Rheingau (Germany).

First, Agata Cieply, Andrea Tvarusko and I from SAP University Alliances welcomed the students at SAP Headquarters in Walldorf. Subsequently, Mr. Bernd Welz, Executive Vice President and Head of Solution & Knowledge Packaging, held a presentation about the history of SAP and how SAP made its way to the center of today’s business and technology revolution in the last 40 years. Mr. Welz talked about ‘The Digital Transformation’ in general and its growing customer demands, how businesses must adapt new technologies, independent of the industry or size of the business.

The second program point was the SAP Inspiration Pavilion, where the students learned more about the history of SAP and experienced firsthand the manifold faces of Big Data. The visitors saw how data impacts our lives today and uncovered its enormous potential for the future.

After a rest whilst having a common lunch, the students of Geisenheim University got to have a look into our d-shop. The d-shop (short for “The Developer’s Workshop”) is a global program that aims to bring hardware technologies closer to all SAP employees. The technologies covered by d-shop include electronic prototyping platforms such as Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone or Arduino supported by a stock of standard electronics components to help colleagues design and build hardware that connects to SAP platforms.

At the end of their day at SAP, Ms. Katrin Oswald, SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud Presales, introduced the group to SAP S/4 HANA, the next-generation business suite which is designed to help you run simple in the digital economy. It’s all about simplicity! This new suite is built on our advanced in-memory platform, SAP HANA, and offers a personalized user experience with SAP Fiori. SAP Fiori is a platform that provides the porting of applications on mobile devices. By using graphics, Ms. Oswald visualised how SAP S/4 HANA represents the digital business foundation of the 21st century in connection with customers, suppliers, assets and employees.

Thank you Mr. Schweickert and your students for visiting SAP SE. It is always a pleasure for us to welcome students here at our Headquarters. We hope you enjoyed this day as much as we did!
