Recent changes in the SAP HANA Technology certification program 2016
It’s 2018 already, so this blog is outdated. Here is the current version:
Recent changes in the SAP HANA Technology certification program 2018
A few days ago Haythem OUESLATI announced in his blog “SAP HANA Training and Certification Program 2016″ that the E_HANAINS151 – SAP Certified Technology Specialist – SAP HANA Installation will be retired. So what does that mean for you?
As you know the SAP HANA Technology certification portfolio currently includes the following training certifications:
- C_HANATEC_11 – SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA SPS11:
The prerequisites for this exam are the training courses HA200, HA240 and HA250. - E_HANAINS151 – SAP Certified Technology Specialist – SAP HANA Installation:
The prerequisites for this exam are the courses HA200, self-study on the installation and update guides for the SAP HANA database, Studio and client software and the chapters on the SAP HANA Lifecycle Management in the SAP HANA Administration guide.
As of the certification C_HANATEC_11, the certification exam also includes installation, update and troubleshooting topics. So there is an overlap in the two certifications. To make this situation clearer for the SAP HANA consultants and administrators the certification E_HANAINS151 will be retired as announced in the blog Haythem Oueslati.
Why is this change important to me?
You might be already SAP HANA Installation certified, our studying for this exam. So here are the facts:
- E_HANAINS151 will be retired by the end of 2016. In the meantime the certification can still be booked.
- After the retirement of the E_HANAINS151 exam the C_HANATEC_11 (or higher) will be seen as the replacement exam.
- The C_HANATEC_11 will combine the HANATEC and HANAINS certifications. This means that when you have passed C_HANATEC_11 you are also allowed to perform SAP HANA installations.
What should I study to pass the C_HANATEC_11 (or higher)?
If you want to be able to pass the C_HANATEC_11 and perform a successful SAP HANA installations in a SAP HANA Tailored Datacenter Integration (TDI) environment you should study the following materials:
- HA100 – SAP HANA Introduction
- HA200 – SAP HANA Installation and Administration
- HA240 – SAP HANA Authorizations, Scenarios & Security Requirements
- HA250 – Migration to SAP HANA Using the Database Migration Option (DMO)
- The SAP HANA installation and update guides (SAP HANA database, SAP HANA studio and SAP HANA client software)
- The SAP HANA Lifecycle Management chapters in the SAP HANA Administration guide
Which SAP HANA version belongs to which exam?
For all the mentioned training courses and extra self-study materials you need to study the correct SAP HANA materials. To make sure that you always know what SAP HANA version is used for the certification exam the exam code includes the SAP HANA SPS number (C_HANATEC_xx means SAP HANA SPSXX). So if you registered for the C_HANATEC_11 then you need to study the SAP HANA SPS11 materials.
Here is an overview on the current status of the SAP HANA certifications:
- C_HANATEC141 => SAP HANA SPS07 (will be retired on 30.06.2016)
- C_HANATEC142 => SAP HANA SPS08 (The installation certification E_HANAINS151 still required)
- C_HANATEC151 => SAP HANA SPS09 (The installation certification E_HANAINS151 still required)
- C_HANATEC_10 => SAP HANA SPS10 (The installation certification E_HANAINS151 still required)
- C_HANATEC_11 => SAP HANA SPS11 (No need for E_HANAINS151 anymore)
- C_HANATEC_12 => SAP HANA SPS12 (No need for E_HANAINS151 anymore)
The full list of valid certifications can be found here.
What is the advantage for me?
Before C_HANATEC_11 you needed to have a valid C_HANATEC_xx certification before you could enroll for the E_HANAINS151 exam, so you needed to sit both exams. Now with the retirement of E_HANAINS151 at the end of 2016 you only need to sit only one exam and you will become SAP HANA Administration and SAP HANA Installation certified. Be aware that this only applies as of C_HANATEC_11 or newer.
For consultants and admins who are already C_HANATECxxx and E_HANAINSxxx certified, they can now update both their certifications in one go by sitting the exam C_HANATEC_11 (or higher).
Update 28.02.2017:
The certifications for SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12 are available. Because SPS12 is the last support package stack for SAP HANA 1.0 we have created a full certification and a delta certification. The delta certification can be used to update your older SAP HANA certification the SPS12 level.
Full certification: C_HANATEC_12
Delta certification: D_HANATEC_12 One of the following exams can be used as a pre-requisite exam for this certification: C_HANATEC141 or C_HANATEC142 or C_HANATEC151 or C_HANATEC_10 or C_HANATEC_11.
If you pass C_HANATEC_12 or D_HANATEC_12 you will become a SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA on SPS12. This means that you are allowed to perform SAP HANA TDI installations.
Update 26.10.2017:
The certification for SAP HANA 2.0 is available. There are big changes in the SAP HANA Administration tools, so also all the courses belonging to have been updated to SAP HANA 2.0.
Full certification: C_HANATEC_13

Hi,
If HANA 151 will be retired by the end of this year, what will happen to those who are certified on 151?
Will there certification will be invalid then?
Thanks,
Alex.
@Alex KID, The exam E_HANAINS151 will be retired, but if you already have the E_HANAINS151 certification it will stay valid.
-- Hay
how soon C_HANATEC_11 will be valid? based on that I can prepare for C_HANATEC_11 or C_HANATEC_12
Dears,
I have cleared C_HANATEC_11 do I still need to give E_HANAINS151 for perfoming the installation?
Please suggest.
Thanks
Jyoti
Hi Jyoti,
Congrats for the HANA certification.
I'm also intending to go for this certification and currently studying HA200 material.
Could you please help out with the following concern that I've got.
1) How difficult is to clear the exam.
2) Is HA200 sufficient to clear the exam
3) Any dumps that you could recommend me to gothorugh.
Rakesh K
No, as of C_HANATEC_11 the E_HANAINS151 is not required anymore.
Jyoti Arya First of all congratulations with passing the C_HANATEC_11. As mentioned above the C_HANATEC_11 is seen as an replacement for the E_HANAINS151, so you can perform SAP HANA installations.

Update:
Got it:
Until end of 2016, candidates can take the C_HANATEC_11 certification or the E_HANAINS151 certification.
Hi,
so E_HANAINS151 in addition to C_HANATEC_11 doesn't make sense, does it?
E_HANAINS151 is only for pre-C_HANATEC_11 users?
Jan
Jan Goedtke you are correct, but that is only valid when you passed the C_HANATEC_11. If you have an older C_HANATEC then you still need to obtain the E_HANAINS151.
-- Hay
I cleared C_HANATEC_10 on 15/04/2016 and cleared E_HANAINS151 last friday with 90% success, it was very easy, I found the C_HANATEC_10 more difficult.
But .... how long will be my certification usable?
I don't really like this game ....
For those interested, I have posted a blog about how to prepare for the C_HANATEC exam:
SAP Certified Technology Associate: C_HANATEC - by the SAP HANA Academy
Success!
Hi Experts,
I have recently cleared C_HANATEC_11 (SPS 11) and would like to know if there is any higher certification required for me (HANAINS) for customer side productive installations on Scale out and High Availability setups and also for S/4 HANA?
Also if there is any higher level of Certification offered by SAP at present, please can anyone let me know the details and code of the exam? Or will this C_HANATEC_11 (SPS11) would suffice the requirements for productive new installations ?
regards
Subhajit
Hi Subhajit,
Congrats for the HANA certification.
I'm also intending to go for this certification and currently studying HA200 material.
Could you please help out with the following concern that I've got.
1) How difficult is to clear the exam.
2) Is HA200 sufficient to clear the exam
3) Any dumps that you could recommend me to gothorugh.
Rakesh K
Hi Rakesh,
Please go through all courses thoroughly (HA100, HA200, HA250 and 240).
Regards
Subhajit
Rakesh,
Please advice id you have cleared this certification yet ? any dumps you have used ?
Hi Subhajit,
Many Congratulations to you..!!
In SAP Training portal HA100 is not mentioned as the course required for C_HANATEC_11.
Only HA200, HA240 and HA250 are mentioned for the certification.
Please suggest if HA100 is required for the preparation of C_HANATEC_11(2016)
Thanks,
Rajesh
@Subhajit, no you don't need an higher certification. The C_HANATEC_11 allows you to perform TDI installations.
-- Hay
Hi Subhajit,
Congrats for the certification. I'm also intending to take up the C_HANATEC_11 certification and would appreciate if you could give me some insight on the certification itself.
I'm going through HA200 course based on SPS10, is that sufficient to clear the exam?
Rakesh K
Hi Rakesh, the certification C_HAHATEC_11 is based on the courses HA200, HA240 and HA250 in SPS11.
If you only going through the HA200 SPS10 material, you will miss vital information from the HA240 and HA250.
-- Hay
Hi,
I have as well cleared C_HANAIMP_151 recently.
Thanks,
Sridhar.
@Sridhar, that is a totally different certification that has nothing to do with the content of this blog.
Haythem OUESLATI announced in his blog " SAP HANA Training and Certification Program 2016" mentions that
" Until the end of 2016, candidates can take the C_HANATEC_11 certification or the E_HANAINS151 certification."
Means that C_HANATEC_11 certification or the E_HANAINS151 certification both allows associate to do TDI installation. So when you take C_HANATEC_11 you dont need to take E_HANAINST151.
Correct me if I am wrong.
@Hussain, correct. You only need c_hanatec_11 or higher.
Hello,
Can you tell me if also the APPENDIX Chapter from HA200 is required for C_HANATEC_11 exam?
Thanks!
@Elena, The Appendix chapter is not needed for the certification.
Hi,
Does anybody know when is C_HANATEC_11 expiring ?
Thanks
Vikas
Hi ALL,
I have done the certification C_HANATEC142.Do I need to do the SAP HANA sps11 course and certification again?
or can i write the C_HANATEC_11 exam directly?
Thanks and Regards,
Dileep Kumar T
@Dileep, C_HANATEC142 is on SPS08, so very old and many things have changed in SAP HANA, so it might be a good idea to have a look at some of the courses before sitting the C_HANATEC_11 (or higher) again.
Hi All,
If i follow the blog, I can make out that HA100 is also required for C_HANATEC_11, where as in the SAP training portal only three courses have been mentioned ( HA200, HA240 and HA250) for the certification.
Please suggest if HA100 is required for the preparation of C_HANATEC_11(2016)
Thanks,
Rajesh
@Rajesh, The need to study HA100 depends on the collection version. Currently C_HANATEC_12 is available and that includes HA100.
Hi Hay,
I think there will be no C_HANATEC_13 , because there will be no SPS13 released. The next might be C_HANATEC_20 for HANA 2. May be you want to change it to avoid confusion.
May be also interesting that there is now a delta certification called D_HANATEC_12. All people who passed C_HANATEC141 or C_HANATEC142 or C_HANATEC151 or C_HANATEC_10 or C_HANATEC_11 are fulfill the pre-requisite.
They also changed the list for validity:
https://training.sap.com/shop/certification/validity
Regards,
Jens
@Jens,
You are right, I removed the col13 and updatd the validity link.
Thanks, Hay
Hi All,
I have already completed C_HANATEC142. To perform SAP HANA installation in TDI environment, can I take just D_HANATEC_12 exam? Is that enough? Or do I have to take C_HANATEC_11 Exam?
Regards,
Ashok
@Ashok, If you pass the D_HANATEC_12, then you are certified for SAP HANA SPS12 which means you are allowed to perform TDI installations.
Hi Henricus
I'm from SAP Basis having more than 2 years of experience but i don't have any SAP certification
so i was planning to take C_HANATEC_11 certification exam either sp11 or sp12 , do experience matters or any prerequisite certification required.
please can you suggest here, how can i move further?
Regards
Shoaib
@Syed, The C_HANATEC_12 is the most current certification. More info see: https://training.sap.com/shop/certification/c_hanatec_12-sap-certified-technology-associate---sap-hana-edition-2016-g/
You need to have SAP HANA knowledge and some experience. The knowledge can be gained form the courses:
HA100 - SAP HANA Introduction
HA200 - SAP HANA Installation and Operations
HA240 - SAP HANA Authorization, Security and Scenarios
HA250 - Migration to SAP HANA using DMO
-- Hay
Hi,
does anyone know, how long my E_HANAINS141 will be valid resp. when do I have to renewiT?
Thanks
Jan
Hi Jan,
According to the FAQ, SAP certifications are valid for a limited time period, as a rule and for two releases (without specifying the case for HANA).
For a list of valid certifications, see https://training.sap.com/shop/certification/validity.
You can check the validity of your own exam in the SAP Credentials Manager.
So far, only the SPS 09 exams and earlier (2012) have expired.
D
@Jan, When E_HANAINS151 was retired all other old E_HANAINSxxx were retired as well.
To be able to perform SAP HANA installations in an TDI environment, you need to be certified. As of C_HANATEC_11 this certification is also qualifying you for TDI installations.
The currect C_HANATEC certification is: C_HANATEC_12. https://training.sap.com/shop/certification/c_hanatec_12-sap-certified-technology-associate---sap-hana-edition-2016-g/
-- Hay
Hi,
If C_HANATEC_X will combine the HANATEC and HANAINS, then why is still called "Associate" and not "Technology Specialist"
Thanks
@vikas, because it is an Associate level certification.
-- Hay
Hi Henricus,
To appear for C_HANATEC_12 is to mandotry to undergo SAP training on HA200, HA240 and HA250 or based on previous work experience on HANA SPS 12 we can appear for the certification. Please suggest.
@TCS Team, The questions in the certification topics are taken from the courses HA100, HA200, HA240 and HA250, so it is recommended to study these courses before sitting the exam C_HANATEC_12.
If you already have lots of work experience on SAP HANA SPS12, that is a advantage but no grantee that you will pass the exam.
I my experience people who work with SAP HANA on a day to day basis focus only on certain parts that a required for their job. The C_HANATEC_12 exam is much broader, so you could have knowledge gaps in certain areas.
— Hay
@all, I have updated to BLOG to reflect the SAP HANA 2.0 Technology courses.
-- Hay
Hi Henricus
Is it still worth it to take SPS11? I am scheduled to take it in a few weeks, and I would rather take this than have to start my studying over for sps12. Thanks for your time.
Regards
Hi Syed,
I would suggest to take C_HANATEC_12 (SPS12) or C_HANATEC_13 (HANA 2.0).
Regards,
Jens
Hello Hay,
you added a commect about TDI:
Does this mean, that with all certification before you can not install a TDI system or just a TDI phase 5 installation? Seems to me that this not not clearly defined which is important for all customers and partners.
Thanks for details
Regards,
Jens
Jens Gleichmann With the comment “The C_HANATEC_13 also allows you to perform SAP HANA TDI installations.” I just want to make clear that you are allowed to perform SAP HANA TDI installations.
In the 'old' days we had the E_HANAINS151 certification. That certification is retired and was merged into the C_HANATEC_xx certification. Due to this merge you are allowed to perform SAP HANA TDI installations when you pass the current available C_HANATEC_xx certification.
Hope this makes a bit clearer for you.
