Welcome to this overview on How to Trial SAP HCP, mobile service for app and device management. The trial is now available as part of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform Developer Edition. Please note the product name has also changed from SAP Mobile Secure to “SAP HCP mobile service for app and device management”. This blog post will cover the basics on how to get started with the trial.

Part 1: An Introduction to SAP HANA Cloud Platform, mobile service for app and device management

The mobile service provides enterprises with SaaS-based mobile device management (MDM) and mobile app management (MAM) capabilities without the complexity and expense of an on-premise installation.

The service provides the following key capabilities:

  • Single solution to manage, secure and publish mobile applications to their employees, business partners and even their consumers.
  • End User experience can be branded and localized.
  • Enhanced user experience to make it easy for employees to enroll and consume mobile applications easily
  • Support managed and unmanaged users securely.
  • Provides the lowest per device per month cost possible
  • Provides a dedicated environment at shared environment cost
  • Maintenance, upgrades and support are all included as part of the subscription
  • Requires no initial investment for licensing, hardware or equipment
  • Can be deployed in under 15 minutes

Pre-requisites:

  1. A free SAP HANA Cloud Portal trial account
  2. An Android, iOS or Windows Phone device

Part 2: Step-by-step guide

Step 1:

The first thing you’ll need is a free developer account on SAP HANA Cloud Platform. If you already have an HCP Developer account you can skip steps 1-3. If you have a Production account, you will still need to sign up for a separate Developer account.

  1. Browse to sign up for a free account of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
  2. Activate your account (via e-mail activation link you received)
  3. Once you have activated your account, simply launch the HCP Cockpit
  4. Now go to Services tab, search for “Mobile Services”, locate and click on “App & Device Management.

5. Click Enable to enable the mobile service (the service provisioning may take up to fifteen minutes or more).

6. Once the service is activated. Click “Go to Admin Console” to get started.

    I went till the admin console but, thereafter my user ID does not work. I am being asked to give credentials and later it is deemed as invalid.

    Please, help me.

    Hi Milja Gillespie, I have a premium account and I’m trying to create an application on the “Mobile Secure”, but I can’t find the service “App & Device Management”. In the mobile services area of my SHCP Cockpit I only have the other two services (img_1).

    If I select the service “Fiori Mobile” I get two options: “Go to Mobile Place” and “Go to Admin Console” (img_2). If I press the option “Go to Admin Console” it takes me to the Mobile Secure page, but doesn’t allow me to create the application (img_3).

    Why do I not have the service “App & Device Management” on my SHCP Cockpit? And what is the difference between accessing through this service or the Fiori Mobile service?

      Hi Ana,

      It sounds like you have purchased HCP and you want to trial app & device management. You will need to create a separate trial account – it won’t show up in your “live” account since you haven’t purchased that service yet. Please let me know if this resolves your question.

        Hi Milja Gillespie, thank you very much for your quick response, now I understand why I don’t have the app & device management tile, but I’m still having the second issue in which I’m not seeing the Fiori Cloud Edition site as reachable.

      Ana Velasquez,  In your post I see two different questions.  The first is “where is app & device management”?  App & device management is a separate subscription that includes mobile device management and app management for all types of apps.  SAP Fiori, cloud service, premium edition does not include that feature, it’s a separate subscription.  But that should not keep you from creating and distributing your Fiori apps! 

      Regarding your second issue, the first thing I recommend you do is completely close the window that the Fiori mobile service opened and start over.  Click on “Go to Admin Console” from the Fiori tile.  If you STILL see the Fiori Cloud Edition site as unreachable, please let me know.

          Ana Velasquez, Try this – Goto Account > Fiori Mobile.  First, copy the URL for your Fiori connection and save it somewhere safe.  Then, edit the connection and change the url slightly – replace “flpportal” with “fiorilaunchpad”.  Leave everything else the same.  Save your change.

          Tell me if the server changes to “Available”.  You may have to refresh the screen.

          If that works, or even if that doesn’t work, I recommend you open a support case.  If if works, then we need to do a documentation update to tell you that you might have to change this URL.  If it doesn’t work, then we have more investigating to do!

            Hi Britt Womelsdorf, Thank you very much for your guide. I tried put what you’ve recomended me. I changed the URL for my fiori connection from https://flpportal-account.dispatcher.us1.hana.ondemand.com/ to https://fiorilaunchpad-account.dispatcher.us1.hana.ondemand.com/ and that didn’t work either.

            Now I’m able to reach the fiori server by changing the URL for my fiori connection to the URL located on the Portal service.

            The workaround was:

            In the SAP HANA Cloud Platform Cockpit, in Services, search for the Portal service, click on it and then “Go to service”, in the site of the Portal service you have to copy te first part of that URL

            That’s the URL for the Fiori connection.

                Hi again Britt Womelsdorf, I have another question, trying to create a fiori mobile from the mobile secure I select the second scenario as my “fiori scenario” beacuse I want to mobilize a single aplication (img_1).

                But when I continue with the process, the next page shows me my fiori server url (which is reachable) and although the title of the step says “Select your Fiori Launchpad or Application“, the list doesn’t shows me any application (img_2), only shows my fiori launchpad and if I select the fiori launchpad url it will build a native app that opens my launchpad and all the applications that are in it.

                I don’t know where I have to put the application URL that I want to build, because in further steps the mobile secure doesn’t ask me to put the app URL. Any help would be appreciated.

                    Britt, thank you for your response. I’ve also followed that blog, but it tells me to select the first fiori scenario in which I have to create a Advanced Configuration File (which I’ve created, a very basic one, as the blog says) but when the build is finished and I open it in my android device, it opens a “launchpad-like” screen with the application in it. According to this video ( Live Application Development with Björn Goerke and Ian Kimbell – YouTube ) I can build an application from mobile secure and when I open it in my mobile device it just opens the application without any “fiori launchpad-like” screen.

                    Here is a screenshot from my device:

                    So what I think with that is that my app it’s not been packaged but instead my launchpad it’s been packaged. I don’t know if there is a workaround for that or if is just the way it should work and that the video I mentioned is just too old.

    In introduction part, the last point says “Can be deployed in under 15 minutes”.

    But in the next part, step1, point 5 says “the service provisioning may take up to fifteen minutes or more”.

    I think this should be corrected. Readers should not feel confused. May be it should say, in the introduction part, “Can be deployed in few minutes”  or something like that which sound more appropriate or convincing?

    I have some problem entering into the service. After clicking “Go to Admin console” it asks for credentials since the auth failes, but I cannot login here. Any ideas?

      Hello,

      I have the exact same issue and the SAP Support cannot help as it is a trial product…

      Have you found a workaround?

      It seems that the issue happens with users that had trial access to the old SAP Mobile Secure… Some colleagues of mine don’t have the issue, and some other have it…

    Hi Experts,

    I’ve created my SAP Cloud Platform trial account, and I succeed to go to the App & Device management Admin Console.

    But I can’t create a new user and when I lauch the Mobile Secure App on my device, I need to have a code.

    Is it possible to add new users and to try SAP Mobile Place with a trial account ?

    Hello experts,

    last week I have created my SAP Cloud Platform trial account. In the App & Device Management admin console I can log in, but when I click “Devices”, the following error message appears:

    “Alert:

    Apologies, Components in your account are not enabled for this functionality to be used yet. Kindly try after sometime.”

    Can you tell me what the problem is and how can I fix it?
