Simplification Item: BOM, Routing/ Production Version Simplification

With the TOP Simplification List Items approach we want to start a S/4HANA SCN Blog series to provide more information about dedicated simplification items. Simplification items where we assume that any customer project has to deal with. The following S/4HANA SCN Blog is collecting these TOP Simplification Items with the links to the dedicated S/4HANA blogs.

The TOP Simplification List Items

Within this blog we want to provide additional information regarding the Simplification Item:

PLM – BOM, Routing/ Production Version Simplification

  • The Customizing for date validity is no longer considered for BOM explosion. Instead, only BOMs with valid production version are considered during BOM explosion
  • Maintaining product version enables to combine the BOM and Routing entities which helps in streamlining the release/ revision process in future

Business Impact

  • It is now mandatory for Manufacturing BOMs to maintain the product version for correct BOM
  • Existing transaction like CS11/12/13 will continue to support existing scenarios
  • The customizing that determines the items valid for BOM explosion now has the default value ‘2’ (Version with latest valid-from date). This customizing is available in Define Modification Parameters under Production -> Basic Data -> Bill of Material -> Control Data for Bills of Material

Required and Recommended Action(s)

  • For all BOMs in the system, maintain product versions using the report Product Version Migration for BOM (report name CS_BOM_PRODVER_MIGRATION)

For more details see the PPT attached to the following SAP Note:
