Our contribution to Bulgarian education

One of the priorities of SAP Labs Bulgaria is to have positive impact on the software development education in Bulgaria and to accelerate the growth of young talents. We are proud of our devoted and enthusiastic colleagues who volunteer to bring value-add topics through seminars, workshops and lectures at prominent Bulgarian schools, universities, conferences and other educational forums.

In 2015 we combined all our education activities under the name "SAP ITversity". Every quarter we are publishing a summary of all the educational activities initiated or supported by our colleagues (Education activities at SAP Labs Bulgaria for Q1 2016).

SAP Scholarship Program “Study iT First”

In 2015 SAP Labs Bulgaria started a scholarship program that was initiated and supported by our Managing Director Radoslav Nikolov (Rado). The main goal of Study iT First is to support financially and to offer mentoring to selected IT freshmen though their first two years of education.

University students in Bulgaria usually start work at an early age. We hope that with our scholarship program we will give 13 promising young minds the opportunity to focus on their academic performance. In addition, the mentors that they have been paired with guide them through wrestling real-world, practical cases. We are happy to have a group of volunteers who drive the whole organization as well as dedicated mentors who support the talents throughout
their study.

Applicable candidates for the program were students in their first year of studies in university, who were pursuing an IT related degree and had excellent grades. 317 young and talented freshmen applied for the program. We selected 49 of them and had them take a knowledge test. 18 of them continued with the next step - interviews. At the end, we had 13 finalists.

During the kick-off event in November Rado and the team driving the initiative welcomed the scholarship students and advised them to take the most of the program and to use the support from their mentors to develop their skills and unleash their potential.

We continue to support the scholarship students with excellent grades in their second university year and soon we will have a second application round for new candidates.

Stay tuned.
