SAP BusinessObjects Roambi Brings a New Era of Mobile Data Consumption to the SAP Family

Our latest addition to the SAP Analytics family, SAP BusinessObjects Roambi was a big hit at SAPPHIRE NOW this year! I want to recap some of the highlights from a Roambi perspective, and kick-off a series of regular blogs that will keep you updated on all things Roambi right here going forward. We’ll also deep-dive into one key feature of the solution with each blog, and today I will start by talking a bit about the award-winning design of the Roambi mobile app.

Mobile First But Not Mobile Only

Roambi has been designed from the get-go to be used (and useful) on small screens. If you have ever tried accessing a report on your phone then you know how tedious that experience typically is. There really is nothing like it out there right now, and if you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to download the app and check it out (and while you’re there, check out Roambi Flow as well). With the addition of the Chrome web interface, you can now use Roambi on your desktop as well. As a native app, SAP BusinessObjects Roambi leverages all the touch screen gestures that people are already used to, so ramp-up time is extremely fast (reverse-pinch to drill-down anybody?).

Decision Making, Roambi Style

This solution design ensures an interactive experience for data visualizations, instantaneous response times, and because all data is stored on the device—no connectivity is required. I was lucky enough to host David Dadoun throughout the event. David is the ALDO Group business intelligence (BI) and data governance senior manager, and an analytics and BI evangelist:

“We have managed to reach out to our user base and provide our internal customers access to near real-time information in a completely mobile, interactive, fluid dashboard. … We have a fantastic success rate well over the 90% mark in terms of user adoption. … I think one of the reasons why our project has been so successful is the fact that the tool is so intuitive, it’s beautiful, there is no latency as you are accessing the data – it’s access to data anytime, anywhere you are.”

Watch the Diginomica press interview with David Dadoun:

The availability of SAP BusinessObjects Roambi in the United States (read the press announcement) was a huge win. Cindi Howson spoke to Quinton Alsbury, founder of Roambi, at SAPPHIRE and later wrote about Roambi’s “beautiful visualizations.”

If you’re curious to see a quick demo of the app, check out Quinton’s Facebook Live Demo: The Pulse of Your Business in the Palm of Your Hand. (Pictured: Quinton and Avery Horzewski during the Facebook Live demo.)

  • I'm tired to follow SAP Analytics products. Xcelsius, Design Studio, Explorer, Lumira, Web Intelligence and now Roambi. Do i really have to memorize tens of apps and their benefits for choosing the right analytical solution? SAP's motto is "run simple". Is this really simple?

Does Qlik or MSTR have tens of different product names? Not sure.

  • Hi Bulent, I agree that there are too many BI tools in our portfolio. That is why I want you to know that we are doing something about it already. As you can imagine, many of our BI clients have their own user fan-base, and it is always hard to take something away. However, our BI convergence efforts have been going well so far, and you will see less tools offering more, and equipped with different user interfaces to serve different types of end users. A good recent example is the convergence of SAP BusinessObjects Lumira and SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio (read more here: During our last #askSAP call, we talked about SAP’s efforts to simplify the portfolio, and Tammy Powlas wrote a nice blog post about the call and you can read more there ( For SAP BusinessObjects Roambi, I think it is a great fit - our existing customers have agreed that Roambi is simply the best mobile analytics solution out there for specific use cases. We’ll talk more about those in this blog.

  • Hello,

I'd like to know if Roambi is available now in other countries of it is still only in the United States?

Additionally, how we can handle customers with Roambi versions before SAP adquisition?

    Thanks in advance and regards

  • Dear TP, SAP BusinessObjects Roambi will become available in other countries very shortly. You will see Canada first in just a few weeks and over the course of Q3 and Q4 we will put a big focus on including EU countries and some additional ones outside the EU as well.
There are no issues with previous versions of Roambi since it is still the same solution; we just adjusted the name to fit better into our Analytics portfolio.

  • Dear Mario,

First of all, with Roambi we can feel difference, this is great. And I have three questions?
    1. Will Roambi be available only on cloud?
    2. In the framework of simplifing BI portfolio will Roambi will replace existing SAP BI Mobile?
    3. What about license? Roambi will come under Business Objects or will be separate licence?

    Thank you.

  • Dear Baghman,
re 1. yes, Roambi will be a cloud only solution going forward. Please keep in mind though that we have connectors for on premise data sources as well as cloud data sources.
re 2. There are currently no plans to have Roambi replace Mobile BI. We will continue to offer both solutions.
re 3. Roambi will continue to be sold with a separate license.
