Cloud Engineering, Cloud Technologies and Cloud Mindset – these are some of the main priorities of our SAP development center. In the last couple of years SAP Labs Bulgaria is becoming more and more recognizable as а Cloud location. Our company is focused on Cloud and In-Memory technologies, and HANA Cloud Platform is a strategic product for SAP. Within 2015 we strengthened our position as “The Cloud Lab” further in the SAP Labs network.

Focus on Technology
The Bulgarian Lab was established back in 2000 when SAP has acquired ProSyst Bulgaria-1 together with its 60 young IT professionals. In our more than 15-year history we have grown 10 times and now over 650 colleagues are working on different SAP products and projects.
The Lab is strongly focused on Customer & Partner Engagement. Recently we have established a 24x7 team taking care for the operational "health" of SAP HANA Cloud Platform in several data centers which is bringing us closer to closing the full cycle of software development and maintenance in a cloud environment. SAP Labs Bulgaria contributes to various parts of the SAP technology portfolio. Some of the products and solutions that our colleagues are working on are SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP), SAP Netweaver (NW Java, PI, KMC), SAP IdM, SAP SSO, SAP Cloud Identity, Landscape Virtualization Management, Cloud Appliance Library, Environment Health & Safety management. We also have strong contributions towards Lifecycle Management, User Interface & Experience across a broader portfolio of SAP products.
Innovation & Creativity
In SAP Labs Bulgaria we are always dedicating time, efforts and ideas for innovative projects. Two times per year we organize InnoWeek events where our colleagues are able to develop cool and innovative ideas. We have a special place, dedicated to innovation and creativity in the Lab – our d-shop. In d-shop our colleagues can touch and play with the newest gadgets so that they can think of new ideas in the field of Internet of Things, imagine new possibilities in software development and boost their creativity.
We also organize different events for the start-up ecosystem, in order to be close to innovative entrepreneurs and companies, like the SAP Startup Focus Forum in Sofia. Last year we also hosted STARTERY CEE, a competition for social startups in Central and Eastern Europe, and we participated actively in mentoring entrepreneurs taking part in the regional HCP Startup Challenge еvent.

SAP Labs Bulgaria is recognized as the absolute #1 Best Employer for 2014. Our company participates every second year in the following AON Hewitt competition for Bulgarian Best Employers and we are usually awarded every time we participate. SAP Labs Bulgaria is also known as a great place to work with friendly environment and lots of employee policies. The average age of our colleagues is 32 year old and at this moment 26% of them are working more than 10 years in the company. We are proud that 100% of the colleagues in leadership positions are home-grown.
Diversity
We embrace SAP’s belief in diversity fostering success. Our female colleagues are more than 35% of all the colleagues which is above the average percentage (25%) of IT women in the country. We are focused on acquiring Early Talents and for the last 2 years 36% of the new hires (including interns) in the Lab are Early Talents. Our Internship program is more than successful – more than 85% of the interns are being offered permanent positions and stay lognterm in the company. We are also actively working on Accessibility testing of our software with the help of a blind colleague who is helping us improve the accessibility part of our products.
Educational Activities and CSR
In SAP Labs Bulgaria we have strong volunteering culture and tradition. Our commitment last year to help local communities resulted in 7000+ hours spent in volunteering activities and more than 120 000 EUR donated by our colleagues.
All the different educational initiatives within the Lab are combined under the umbrella of „SAP ITversity“. The initiative is focused on reaching children from their 4th grade at school to students in 4th year at the university. We have successful partnerships with the best high schools and universities in the country and we work constantly towards improving the IT and computer science education. We encourage youngsters to choose the IT as a path for career development, help them get better educated and be more prepared for the actual work environment.
All the SAP technologies we are developing, the working environment which boosts our innovation and creativity and the different activities we participate in, help us feel inspired working at SAP Labs Bulgaria. Being a strategic development center for SAP technologies and working on significant projects motivate us all to contribute more and more to SAP mission to help the world run better.
