Current innovation by the SAP for S/4HANA have opened the many gates to do the analytical reporting at different level and at different places in your SAP Enterprise architecture.

Many of us have come across the Questions like what is going to happened with the SAP BW application is there are approach available with the HANA modeling and now you can do the analytical reporting with S/4HANA.

Now onward Customers who is already running the SAP BW, SAP HANA   and planning for S/4HANA need to understand that how they are going to consume their BW on HANA going forward. By presenting the Architecture in this blog i want to put some light on the approach for analytical reporting in today's HANA platform:

After looking at the Architecture you will understand the Operational Analytic and Strategic analytic.

Customer having the ERP and other data base which are not part of ERP then in that case it will be better option to have BW on HANA as your EDW (Enterprise data warehouse). To integrate the data from different systems you can use the BODS or SLT server to transfer the data to BW data model or HANA data model. If customer having requirement to consume the data real time in the EDW then it will be better to implement the SLT server and methods to load data to EDW.

Advantage on the BW on HANA is you can consume the data model of HANA (e.g. analytic view) in the BW application data model and vice versa. This way you need to design your architecture and you need to adopt based on your need to place your data model in HANA studio or in BW application.

In case if you do not need to the Real time data in EDW then you can also use the BODS (Business Object data services) for data provisioning from any database to SAP BW on HANA.

Similar way with S/4HANA also you can do the analytic in your ERP itself. IN S/4HANA product SAP have introduced the ABAP CDS layer. This CDS are nothing but a view on HANA tables but those will have behavior of multidimensional and it can have capability of complex joins, Unions, Aggregation and filtering. So once you have your CDS you can expose your CDS to SAP FIORI. So whenever customer need any on demand report like back order or sales order analysis then you can do this real time in S/4HANA architecture. This is the reason we can consider this architecture for Operational short term analytic.
