Partner Hackathon Brings Business Stories to Life with SAP Cloud for Analytics and the SAP Digital Boardroom

hackathon_participantsIn late April, the SAP Analytics Product Management team hosted an exciting Partner Hackathon using SAP Cloud for Analytics and the SAP Digital Boardroom. Deloitte, Epsilon, IBM, itelligence Group, Protiviti, and TruQua were among the companies represented. In total, the Hackathon was an effort comprised of twelve partners who developed six SAP Digital Boardroom stories in just three days. And the results—far exceeding our expectations—lead to some very hard choices for the judges.

The Partner Hackathon kicked off in Palo Alto on Tuesday, April 19. This day was all about training and familiarizing the partners with the product—prepping data, creating stories, geo mapping, planning, and so on. An initial poll revealed that only about a third of the attendees had used SAP Cloud for Analytics in any capacity, so everyone was on a fairly equal playing field.

Wednesday, April 20 was devoted completely to the partners working on their content. From the moment they arrived, we had our experts readily available to answer any and all of their questions. It was an intense day, laced with some frustration, but the groups were truly some of the most devoted we have seen to date. After another long day, the partners continued to work from their hotels late into the evening and early the next morning.

On Thursday, April 21, there was no time for fine tuning or developing new content. The day was solely about presentations and judging. Each team divided by company (2 partners per team) and presented their SAP Digital Boardroom scenario for various industry use cases, using customer data.

  • Epsilon: Automotive
  • Deloitte: Food & Beverage
  • itelligence Group: Oil & Gas
  • TruQua: Sports Retail
  • IBM: Mining
  • Protiviti: Eyeware

The SAP Digital Boardroom scenarios the teams created were far more impressive than ever expected. The defining criteria that the judges used to determine winners really came down to whether the partner told a compelling end-to-end story without gaps. Their story had to allude to next steps beyond the Hackathon, something that could be packaged and shared at an event like SAPPHIRENOW. Partners were also asked about what could be done if certain features or functionality were there in the product or if they had more time. Winners took home Amazon gift cards and will work on next steps to develop their content further with personal help from our experts for future events and partnerships.

And the Winners Were…

Overall, the partners really enjoyed this event and were completely dedicated to making the most out of every moment. itelligence Group stated that they got much more out of this than they would have in a training session because it was interactive and hands on. Not only did they learn a lot, but they got to take home something meaningful for both their company and their clients.

“The visualizations came across very easily. I was really impressed that we could generate this story with the limited data we had come with.” – TruQua

The event was outstanding because of the dedication of our partners and SAP experts. We look forward to many more events like this one around SAP Cloud for Analytics and the SAP Digital Boardroom.
