SAP Partners play a very important role in the success of SAP HANA Cloud Platform. They bring in the network effects for success. For example the more partners develop extensions+apps for HCP, more customers will use those apps. More customers adopt the platform by using these apps there would be more partners who would develop for SAP HCP. This is classic platforms play (read more about this play here on HBR). To make sure our partners are successful in adopting HCP we run a series of Power Weeks at various locations across the globe.

First in the series this year was the “SAP S/4HANA Extensions using HCP” Power Week held simultaneously in Walldorf and Palo Alto between April 5th – April 7th. S/4HANA is the next-generation business suite that acts as the digital core to help organizations run simple in the digital economy. To stay ahead of the competition, well run organizations script their own journey while delivering new innovations at an increasingly faster pace. SAP S/4HANA along with HCP help the organization in this journey to a faster, nimble digital enterprise.

In this workshop we presented various aspects and capabilities of HCP and how these capabilities can be used along with S/4HANA or for that matter any SAP system. The need for customization using the classic in-app extensions and side-by-side extensibility (see below) was also stressed.

The usecases revolved around the following ideas

  • Personalized user experience that requires no training
  • Highly connected enterprise with newer business models
  • Business functionality to be delivered across all channels be it on-premise, web or mobile
  • Need for adaptive analytics
  • Use of business networks to gain insights from interactions across networks of suppliers, buyers or contingent workforce.

A picture is worth thousand words the following picture captures all the extension scenarios with in-app scenarios being denoted by I1,I2 etc while HCP side-by-side scenarios being denoted by S1, S2 etc.

The workshop was a good mix of concepts and practical hands on experience. Hands-on exercises to build Fiori based applications and bring the on-premise SAP data using Cloud connector were done by the partners.

Overall this was a very well attended workshop with partners across wide domains ranging from Automotive, Financial, Oil and Gas, Agile data marts and Consulting to name a few. Thanks to our partners who took the time to attend this workshop and also shared the very interesting scenarios they are building applications or extensions to S/4HANA. This was a big effort and thanks to our partners and SAP Teams (Partner Solution Center & ISV’s team, HCP RIG, HCP PM, HCP UX PM, HANA PM HANA Technical Academy) for making it a success. You can also read David Hess’s account of this event here

I would love to hear any feedback or questions in the comments section below. You can also follow @saphcp, @SAPSolCenter or @SAPPartnerBuild on twitter to keep up with various things happening in HCP and partner areas.
