Last week, together with Vladimir Pavlov (Vlado), we had the chance to visit Saint Petersburg for a CodeJam event around the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. We were warmly welcomed by our host Viacheslav Gershov (Slava), local SAP experts and the windy and raining Russian weather. The CodeJam was part of a two days “Innovation Forum: SAP for ISV’s”, held in Saint Petersburg on March 30 and 31, 2016.
The event was fully booked and started sharp at 10 a.m Moscow Standard Time. Slava opened the event and Vlado started with a brief overview of the key cloud concepts.
Then he went through the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, explaining some of the offered services and scenarios. Finally additional resources like SCN portal, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform – Developer Center and the massive open online course (MOOCs) that are available on OpenSAP, were shown to the participants.
After the presentation, we spent the rest of the day in a hands-on experience. The participants were well prepared with their accounts and tools setup, so we could start almost immediately. Interest was high and they were able to dive deep into the platform. After the initial “Hello World” Java application, the participants were eager to see more advanced topics. We continued with samples from the SDK – persistence with JDBC, authorization and mail.
During the event, we had the help and the support from several local SAP experts, that were eager to learn how to run a CodeJam event. They were acting really great and we had a lot of our job done by them! So we can expect soon more local CodeJams in the region, that will be run from our Russian colleagues. Good luck guys, in running the next CodeJam!
