Virtual Reality in the Boardroom
Have you ever dreamed of experiencing the high stakes play in a corporate boardroom? Now you can, thanks to a new virtual reality experience from SAP called the Digital Boardroom, debuting at this year’s SXSW Festival.
Using the Samsung Gear VR headset and Google Cardboard – that project video clips and digital interactivity based on real world data and “what if scenarios” – Digital Boardroom drops users right into the action. Once immersed in the virtual boardroom, users experience and see all the politics, stress, glory and high stakes. And through the VR interaction users also get to experience how real time data is transforming the nature of business by closing the gap between data and decision making.
According to SAP Co-Founder Hasso Plattner, this type of “boardroom of the future” will simplify business at an unprecedented rate by bringing together the company CEO, head of sales, marketing and other experts when conducting monthly, quarterly and yearly planning. In other instances, the board might need to quickly convene when share price plummets, or don’t know how to deal with a sudden influx of orders.
“We cannot solve these problems with green and white striped lists anymore,” said Plattner at last year’s customer event SAPPHIRE NOW. “We cannot do this flipping through hundreds of pages. We need people to be in one room and to talk each other with real facts, not PowerPoints.”
